Quoting hyperion:

"We know it means eceptional. Remember when Amiga hardware was eceptional, not just the OS? You won't need to remember much longer. Nemo brings Amiga back to the high-end."

So in other words, it will be up to par with high end 2000 Euro+ PCs? You know, I would have settled for something less powerful, and a matching price.

Whats high end now anyway? 3 SLI Video cards, quad cores, 4 gigs RAM and all that?

"It also means etra. This is where it gets hard to eplain. Let's start with custom chips. Amiga lead the way, everyone else followed. Got a graphics card? Custom chips are standard now. Amiga hardware used to be special, did things other computers couldn't."

So, in other words, the new Amiga will do stuff that current PCs dont? Nice. With which OS?

"That's why also stands for etraordinary, because that time is coming again."

RIGHT.

Something tells me its going to be expensive, and nowhere near current 'high-spec' PCs. I'd love to get this wrong though.

When I saw the confirmation those slots were PCI-express I started to believe we finally might have a decent machine for today's reality.

Now if this turns real and it has drivers for latest video cards, good sound,  100% functionnal web browser and office suite then i'm buying.  Unless of course its gonna be $1000 just for a motherboard.

Logically I'm not willing to pay more than $400 for a motherboard, new Amiga or not.  They seem to be using standard components so the price should be decent (i hope)...

Anyways their little riddles and mysteries is making my day :)  its fun!

With $400 you get one hell of a PC motherboard.... You think this Nemo thing or whats it called will be as powerful for that price?

If their idea of a good computer is in any way like their idea of a good looking website, we're all doomed.

But they're not selling you a motherboard - there's plenty of others that will do that.  As I understand it, and I am probably wrong :D, they're selling you the whole shebang much like Apple does.

People complain apple is expensive, but it does what it does very well.

It will be interesting to see what this does.

Part of me thinks that the difference is that this really is a reconfigurable computer (FPGA) which is why they're excited to see what people will do with it...  But I guess it's got some power to back it up too, and the OS to support such a thing?

Tomorrow will be interesting, that's for sure.  I just hope it's not too much of a disappointment.

Yep, you've made your point now how many times? Buy your freakin' PC and be happy with it already! Nobody is forcing you to buy this new Hyperion/A-EON machine or to even be remotely interested in it.

Your total lack of knowledge about scale of markets offends me to be honest. Do you really not get that when you produce something exclusive in a relatively low volume price per piece will be higher? Or are you just an anti-Hyperion fanboy/troll?

Yet it would still be crap, when you have MOS/OS 4 flying in much less demanding hardware.

I would never buy such a low system for once, it would be a complete waste of space, where a mac mini or this presents themselves much more tempting.

If you click over the cpu socket and write "XENON" the javescript popup will say "Does that seem likely?".
I tried ARM X86 G4 G5 powerpc POWERPC PPC and lot others but the only one that gets that message is XENON.

Actually, If you write xeon, this is what you get : "For all I know, you're spot on. Unfortunately, being a weak and feeble piece of Javascript, I didn't understand. Sorry."

Well, just tried again with another answer... same reply. Sorry.

I've said that what Hyperion needs to do is at least become price competitive with Apple, selling mobile phone spec hardware for over over €1000 is not being price competitive.  Nobody expects them to get down to PC range, but can they get down close to Apple range?

Folks here laugh at Apple prices but current SAM price/performance ratios aren't even in the same order of magnitude as Apple's....

I don't have a clue what Hyperion are developing but a sub €300 with HDMI that hooks into your television wouldn't be a bad product, if you can develop the software to make it usable.  IE Make a *usable* Apple TV.  There's a bit of an opening there, Apple TV is a great idea poorly implemented....

Why compare the price/specs of an x86 computer to a new Amiga?

I find this piece of news interesting and we should be happy...no?

3-4 years ago we had nothing now we have SAMs and this new X machine from a-eon, is this bad?!
