Problem with the monitor or gfx card?
« on: January 02, 2010, 09:33:27 PM »
While playing Pitfighter all of a sudden my svga crt monitor's screen streched horizontaly and became bright and started switching on and off and then turned off.

I quit back to OS3.9 and the display was still black. Turned the monitor off and on again and the display returned, but still stretched and too bright.

I have tried turning both the Amiga and the monitor off but same results. The ON/OFF problem seems to persist more when it is in an Amiga native mode (WHDLOAD) etc..

Also noted that the screen when turns off pinches quickly and when turns on pinches out.

The problem though seems very much like its from the monitor, not the Picasso.

Any opinons here?

Now in OS3.9 800x600 screen is stretched and brighter but in games (native amiga mode) its working fine.

I tried the Amiga connected to another monitor (22" LCD) and it worked 100% fine.

I guess that settles it then: it´s the monitor. Problems like the one you mention are common in CRTs. Your local television repair guy might be able to fix it, if you are emotionally attached to it, otherwise you can probably get a recently retired CRT on your local classifieds/ebay for next to nothing...

... unless you want to run 15kHz modes w/o FF on it...
We gave away ~15 17" CRTs when nobody in the company wanted to use them any more. Anyone willing to pick one up locally in Nürnberg is invited.
