Still has that unnecessary bar along the side, still has very un-Amiga-like horrible looking drop down menus attached to the top of the window, and yes, it's still just crappy, bloated Firefox, the browser that runs like a snail on a 1.6Ghz Linux PC. I can't imagine how slow it'll be on a 600Mhz Sam. They do claim to want to fix these things for Timbrewolf... yet with each new screenshot they leak, it still looks the same.

*sighs* I pop in once in a lifetime and see that things are the same here as they are everywhere. Of course you are entitled to your opinion (although it could have been presented a lot less offensive than you did). However, don't you think that work-in-progress screenshots do not necessarily represent the final product? Maybe that "unnecessary" bar is still there because we are currently reworking the way that AmigaOS sizes windows.

About the look, yes the default theme looks pretty horrible, we didn't bother to think about an AmigaOS default theme yet. These screenshots are there to present progress, nothing else. If you are building a house, you won't complain about the color of walls until they are actually painted, will you?

As for the speed, it will most likely be too slow for the classic. I think it will run alright on the SAM, depending on your definition of "alright" - I personally don't think Firefox is slow, although it seems to be a lot faster on Windows than it is on Linux.

But look, the screenshots weren't to show off their progress on porting this Linux software to their OS, it's to show off their overhyped new project, or at least tease people about it and get their hopes up that it's actually something impressive.

Actually, they were intended to show off our progress on porting this Linux software to our OS that has been asked for since the source code of this Linux software was released, like, 8 years ago, a project that you are free to use or ignore as you like since we don't ask money for it (the donations are freely given, the project would probably be finished even if nobody had donated). It's the typical case of "take it or leave it", so I do not see any reason for you to put down the effort like this.

As for our overhyped new project, maybe you should again wait and see whether it is impressive or not. Your definition of "impressive" will certainly be adapted by you to proof your point here, but others will find it impressive, I am quite sure of that.

Firefox is a good browser when you need some of the plugins but there's no way I'd use it as an everyday browser...

My GF just complained about how our not yet finished walls looked just 2 minutes ago:-)

Timberwolf seems to be progressing well and I for one is looking forward to actually be using it!

It's exciting to see how add-on compatible timberwolf will be with FireFox.

I hope for:
ImageZoom
TabMixPlus
Down'emAll

Then:
FabTabs
GoogleToolbar

I'll be a happy puppy then, and in heaven if I also get the Webdeveloper plugins to work! :-)

Just in case anybody is wondering what just happened, I momentarily closed the thread and moved all the X/AEON related posts to this thread.

I'd imagine that would be one of the ones that would work pretty much straight away. As far as I know, it is pure JS/XUL.

Bente my girlfriend won't be happy. A new "browser" and OS to learn. Just because one of my whims...

Just give her the windows 7 box and be done with it. Anyway, it can't be as harsh as expecting her to learn how to use linux... which is pretty much what I did to my significant other

Truth be told, until Toni (pre-edit: I AM JOKING) falls in love with Java, ports Java to Amiga (any flavour) and releases WinUAE as a Java app, I will always have a Windows box for WinUAE purposes (not joking) :-/

Now, what remains to be seen is how much of the Timberwolf code that can migrate to the other colours of Amiga

If I recall correctly, he modified his BPPC, adding a socket to which he fitted a faster 603e part.
