Hanging Blizz1260 ...

Now that I got my Blizz1260 updated to 060 (PG rules:)), today I finally decided to play with it a bit and noticed that the old advice of leaving the trapdoor open might be a good one since even a Rev.5 060 get's too hot. But it creates another problem and that is the card actually tilts with it's own weight touching the table. A heatsink would solve the heat issue completely but they're too big and don't allow me to close the trapdoor. One of those with a tube to dissipate heat to another place would be cool, if anyone knows of one plz let me know...

There is actually just enough room to mount a thin fan on the 060 directly.  Of course it will have to be raised slightly so that air can escape around the sides of the cpu, or use a fan with this in its design (there is one on my apollo 1240), and you can do this with your trap door in place as well, but you will need to cut out a square section for the fan.  It can be done, and with the trapdoor in place...but it will just take some thought and effort.

I had one of those when the card was a Blizz040. The fan would touch the table and stop so had to raise the computer. I'm gonna take some time later to do a good search on low profile heatsinks for chipsets, maybe I'll find something... One interesting thing is that just the heatsink is enouph if you don't overclock it too much.

It's the same deal with a 1230, too big to fit with the trap-door on but 'hangs' without it....easy answer....Silicone the sucker in there!

I have a DCE Blizzard 1260 and a Blizzard 1230 SCSI controller, but it doesn't hang. The SCSI controller hold the Blizzard card tight.

Put some aluminium foil (securely!) on the trapdoor cover and use a small square of it on the 060 to push against the cover. I do this with my 1230/IV and it works great.

Is that a heat sink?  Pretty neat idea if it works... well done.
Is the foil on the trapdoor cover insulated apart from where it presses against the cpu?

That's what I was thinking.  But I suppose if you inslulate all but the square section where the cpu presses against the trapdoor foil then that would prevent any shorts.
