OS3.9 sometimes freezes for a second
« on: December 13, 2009, 04:10:23 PM »
Im making progress, moving up from the hardware to the software topic.. :)

Ive now got os3.9 working fine, together with cgx4. But Ive noticed from time to time, the mousecursor freezes for a second. This can happen when extracing lha, clicking a link in Netsurf, etc.

What could be causing this? Are there known issues with AsyncWB for example? My guess is it has something to do with this. But it could also be some misconfiguration in the CGX tooltypes, for example.

Speaking of which, how do I enable screendragging?

This is not a normal behaviour of OS3.9 - i'm using it since years with a similar setup (OS3.9 BoingBag 2 and CyberGrafX4). Sometimes this freezes can occur if a bad behaving program causes an exception or if some really CPU hungry stuff invokes. I guess here that theres some conflict in your current setup.

I had momentary freezes when I had a DOSDriver mounted for a device that wasn't attached (a ZIP drive on SCSI unit 5).

Screendragging depends on your graphics card - not all support it. There should be a check box to enable it in the CyberGraphX commodity (installed to SYS:Prefs by default).

My setup is 3.9 + Picasso96, and it freezes just like you describe but only when connected to the Internet using Genesis, even if I'm not actively using the connection.

I have no idea what causes this... :(

well, thanks! now I know where to start looking. I wasnt aware it was genesis that was causing the freezes, but now it makes sense.

perhaps I should switch to miamidx anyway, still got it lying around somewhere, registered. it does work with os3.9 I hope? :)

In my case such behaviour happens when for the first time a tool compiled for PPC is loaded into the memory. The next attempt to run it is OK.

it loks loooks like a filesystem/IDE lockup.

If you are useing SFS, rise the dosbuffers to 400 (at bare minimum)

refurbished one from Elbox tower. its not a power issue, honest. it is related to Genesis.

Or, well.. there is one other thing I can think of, currently Im not using Setpatch with the option to skip the update for scsi.device. I didnt make any changes to NSDpatch.cfg either. I am however using IDE-Fix. Could it be that the OS is conflicting with the IDE-Fix express scsi.device patching?

This packet fix has nothing to do with freezes.
