Well..after a rather crappy day pulling my hair out it turns out it was all over the aforementioned IDE DVD burner.
Long short short...the Amiga won't boot with this drive either as Master or Slave. I have a 16GB CF card connected via a IDE->CF adapter and tried every combination to get the Miggie booted with this drive and they all failed.
Swapped out the drive for a Sony OptiArc DVD burner and she came up first go. Tried an older Sony DVD burner and up she came again. Went back to the LG and dead as a doornail.
So, I just thought I'd post this in case someone is looking at one of the LG drives (GH22LP20 22x DVD writer) for their Miggie and has better ways to waste a day..don't bother.
