Amiga OS 4.0 installation trouble
« on: November 27, 2009, 05:45:53 AM »
Hi

I just received my OS 4.0 CD with a used CSPPC and am attempting to just do a wee test on my 4000. When I say 'test' I mean that I don't have a hard drive in the 4000 yet (which may in itself be the problem) but I just wanted to see the first few screens of the install.

Anyway, the machine boots from the floppy, does some stuff then does a soft reboot (this is OK apparently). On the 2nd reboot the OS 4.0 CD is accessed and starts to do some reading. Files are read from the floppy also so I 'm thinking things are progressing as intended.

However, a short time later the CD light just starts to blink and the screen turns blue, then red, then blue before restarting. This cycle repeats endlessly.

Now, this 'may' be as I do not have a HDD connected but I somehow doubt it. My CD-ROM is configured as 'master' with the 4000 having nothing more in her than the CSPPC, floppy drive and CD-ROM.

Anyone have any idea what the screen color codes (I'm assuming that is what they are) mean? I would try it on my 1200 (first time OS 4.0 install here btw) but it's currently in parts all over the place :(

Many thanks

Updating my own thread :p

Disabled MapROM and changed the RAM from 60ns to 70ns.

Now when I try to install the screen flashes blue, red, blue then stays on yellow. The CD-ROM at this point is spinning but not actually reading as far as I can tell.

i don't know how the A4000 works but on a A1200 with a CD/DVD rom only it boots into OS4.0.

green=it cant see the CPU or it's faulty (A1200)

It's not green though. It's definitely yellow.

This problem is directly related to your Cyberstorm Question/Problem. OS4 needs the PPC.

Those various colors appear as OS4 is trying to kick in the various PPC kickstart modules. If there's anything kicked in already (Deneb Flash, for instance) it'll choke.
