iomega Zip250 with A4000T

This morning I got myself a scsi external Zip250 drive which I would like to use with my A4000T. It seems I need a different cable than the one it came with. I also got myself a few 250 zip disks elsewhere.

A few questions

1. What kind of cable or adapter will I need to hook it up with the A4000t?

2. What kind of software will I need?

3. On the Zip disk there is "PC" written.... does it mean its PC formatted or its something else?

I think there is a software that comes with OS3.9 for the IOMega Zip drive. Forgot what its called.

I checked- it comes with IomegaTools (for Zip and Jaz).

Can some one check if there is a device in storage in 3.9 that I have to mount to be able to use the zip?

I had a Zip disc drive on my 4000D and used it to read and write discs.

If I remember correctly I used the Iomegatools of 3.9 to access the disc and its contents.

I don't think it is a 25 pin.

Looks more like a 50+

Can you get a closer picture of it with more detail?

Its a SCSI II external interface. I think thats 50pin.

If it is and your Zip is a 25 way connector then this may do the job

Yep I used an external SCSI Zip100 on my A4000T with that cable (SCSI MicroD 50 pin to DB25)

You might want to take a look at SCSI Source. OK, the're way overpriced, but they do show decent pics of all the various SCSI connectors. http://www.scsisource.com/scsi_adapters/

I bought an external HD50 male to DB25 Female adapter from them to use my Zip 100 on my 4000T.

If the Zip disk is formatted properly, it should just show up on WB. You'll want to make sure all Zip disks are formatted the same way, i.e. through IoTools on OS 3.9 , to avoid any diskchange issues..

Personnally I have a PC here with a 250MB ZIP drive and keep all the disks formatted for the PC and use CrossDOS on the Amiga so I can copy the stuff onto the Amiga. I have my Workbench on CD created from the PC. Also the 250MB is a massive file storage device for getting Aminet files to your Amiga. Saves all the problems of floppy drives. I generally get ZIP drives fitted to all my machines.

The PC on the disk is cus they made these also for the Mac. The PC drives were often Parallel port units, which I also have. SCSI was genrally used on the Macs. You know if its an SCSI unit cus it has on it the SCSI symbol. Internal ones are IDE and I also have these on the Amiga towers I have.

Don't forget the unit number which is usually limited to 6 or 5.. And also switch the termination off if you intend daisy chaining another SCSI device. There can be probs with the devices if used as a kind of hard drive cus they power down and I have had one muck up a hard drive on the chain. Best to have at the end of a chain. Also avoid leaving them on all the time cus the power supplies don`t last. I have burnt out several.
