Can't install WHD loader
« on: November 23, 2009, 09:15:20 PM »
Hi, I'll be completely honest I am struggling a bit here with the new Amiga.

I got one of the PCMIA adaptors with a CF card so that I could port files across from my PC to my Amiga. I managed to get at up and running so that I could see the CF card in workbench, but I couldn't see the files on the card. They are LHA files. So I used EasyADF and then extracted the WHDload installation file from the CF card onto the internal memory of the Amiga 1200. However everytime I click on the install icon I'm simply told 'Can't open needed libraries.'

Is there something that I'm doing wrong?

Can someone point me in the direction of a guide to get whd load running on an Amiga 1200 and get the games off the website as well using the PCMIA adaptor. I'd love to get a game of project x going but I can't figure it out.

Cheers in advance for any help guys.

have u tryed to unpack The WHDload.lha file on or PC/Mac before u transfer it to ur Amiga , and the simply copy the files (directory) to ur hd and run it from there ?
u can also try to run the WHDload install from ur cf card when it is unpacked from ur pc/mac

Well, somehow I managed to get it unpacled on the amiga 1200, but now everytime I install it. I just can't find it anywhere. There is no icon for it in the directory where I am installing it. Its like it installs but the Amiga has no record of it afterwards.

If I try and click on 'install game,' for any of the games I get the message unable to open your tool 'installer.' message.

Is there a guide on how to do this anywhere because the only message I keep getting everytime I try to do anything is 'unable to open installer.'

I downloaded installer 43.3 as suggested elsewhere on the internet, but to no avail. Some games don't require installing. But for those ones I get a window saying please donate and then an error message saying 'can't allocate shadowmem.'

I don't wish to state the obvious here, but after downloading 'Installer' from aminet - http://aminet.net/util/misc/Installer-43_3.lha - ...you can extract the archive by double clicking on that file "Installer-43_3.lha" and then when the text box appears you simply insert the text "Lha x " before the text that first appeared... so basically the command you are entering will look like this:

"Lha x installer-43_3.lha"    (then hit return)

The above command will extract the .lha archive of "Installer" to the current working directory (which I am assuming is your Compact Flash CF device "CF0:"

If you are sure that the "Installer-43_3.lha" file is actually on your CF card and you simply can't see it, then to see it you simply need to select the 'Window' menu and select 'Show' --> 'All Files'.  This shows all files.... which means all files that do not have an icon.  You will then be able to see the file in question and perform the above procedure.

After that procedure has completed, if you select the menu 'Window' then 'Update' you will see the new files....one will be called 'installer'.  You need to copy this file, or move it to your 'C' drawer on your boot partition. You can do this by double clicking on the file 'installer' and editing the command in the text box like before, but change it to this:

"copy installer to c:"    (then hit return)

This copies installer to the correct place on your hard drive.

All the above is assuming that Lha is installed on your system, which basically means that you have a program called "Lha" residing in your C: drawer where all the commands are stored.

You can dowload Lha from http://www.aminet.net - just do a search for "Lha.run", this is the file you will need to install lha on your computer....just make sure you have a copy of lha in your C: drawer.

All the above will hopefully sort out your problem with your computer not being able to find 'Installer'.
