Q: A600 mobo dimension...
« on: November 09, 2009, 11:05:08 PM »
Am thinking about plonking an A600 mobo in an A1000 case. Does anyone know off hand how wide that thing is? The A1000 mobo measures 13-1/2" wide before it hits the power supply. I'm aware I'm going to have to get "jiggy" with it re: the joystick ports, keyboard, etc. but...  am hoping I can build a simple keyboard adapter to the A1000's keyboard too. The A1000's case is just too frickin' cool to not have out  :-)

I'm in the process of finishing off adding an A1200 motherboard to an A1000 case. I'm using an external power supply, and there is plenty of room. So, if a similar thing is done, an A600 board will fit fine. Even if you still use the original power supply, I am sure it will fit fine as well - I just did a quick visual check comparing A1200 keyboard width (minus the keypad - which is roughly the width of an A600 motherboard) to the available space in the A1000 case. I realise that's not a specific answer to your question about measurements, but I hope it helps.

Also, over at AmiBay I'm currently selling a PC to A600 keyboard adaptor that may help you with matching up the A1000 keyboard.

Good luck!

Yeah, the A1200 option crossed my mind, but was concerned about its width. You'd surely have to keep the power supply outside the case. Unless you got real creative with that even. lol Do you have any pics of your project Astral?

And your keyboard adapter... I assume that's an A600 to PS2? Sounds interesting, but I've never seen an RJ45 phone type plug-in for an A1000 to fit PS2.
