OS3.9 on a 1084S
« on: November 07, 2009, 04:44:40 PM »
Is there any way i can make OS3.9 look good with a high res , no interlace and 256 colours using my Commodore 1084S ?

Thing is my A4000 does have a scandoubler which works great on CRT VGA monitors , but my A1200 has no scandoublers and since i use both Amiga's on the same desk , id like to use the same monitor .

Was wondering if there is some sort of custom resolution or hack which can get me flicker free high resolution using preferably 256 colors or at worst 64 .

this is your only hope

http://aminet.net/package/util/wb/magictv2

But you only get 16 colors

One good not so expensive solution would be bought cheap LCD-TV. Look from here/eab and amigaworld wich models work well

If you use workbench and other apps a lot, rather than just playing games, I would just buy a scandoubler/flicker fixer for it as its just the best option for AGA. 640x256 just doesn't cut it for anything but the earlier software, especially once you have become accustomed to using 640x512, as you have on your 4000. Not only does 640x512 give you a whole lot more room, but its actually a proper square (well near enough) image, where icons and everything else are displayed in proportion rather than stretched out.

If your sticking with the commodore monitor, perhaps it would be best to ditch os3.9 and go back to workbench 3.1 and its far more simple appearance thats better suited to lower resolutions.

I did once connect my A600 to my 32" TV using scart and it looked more than good enough

mhz = 0.001 Hz, Mhz = 1,000,000 Hz, but both are unlikely in this case.

You most likely mean 100 Hz... :-)

In theory any LCDTV should work as a flicker fixer (they're designed to display interlaced video in a progressive format), but might still choke with amiga interlaced modes... LCD monitors on the other hand will most likely show some flicker/distortion with laced modes.

LOL, whoops - I think I read the thread too quickly and commented on the wrong response. That was really intended for the person who said LCDs don't ever flicker, when in fact they totally can, especially LCD monitors (laced modes though something like a CV3D scandoubler which doesn't flicker-fix).

Sorry 'bout that! :)
