A500 PSU vs A1200 PSU
« on: November 07, 2009, 11:46:20 AM »
Just wondering which PSU should I use with my A1200, since I heard that a A500 brick would be better with an upgraded A1200.
The PSU specs are:

A500 PSU Output:
5V 2.5A
12V 1.0A
-12V 0.1A

A1200 PSU Output:
5V 3.0A
12V 500 mA
-12V 100 mA

Thanks in advance !
A1200, Blizzard 1260 + 64mb, Indivision AGA, Subway USB, 8GB CF-HD, PCMCIA network card, OS 3.9.
And a couple of A600\'s :).

The A500 PSU is always better than the A1200's ... I have an upgraded A1200 too and im using the A1200's PSU with no problems , but i still think A500 psu is better .

The 5V 4.5A version of course - but you have to find it...

Goliath's are even better if you can get hold of them...

Either that or a modded ATX one, though they are hardly pretty left loose.

My Commodore 1200 (bought new back in 93) came with the heavier more powerful PSU. I later got a spare 1200 with the lighter less powerful one, so it seems not all 1200's have the underpowered PSU.

My A1200 with an Apollo 030 accelerator and a 2.5" hard drive was too much for the stock psu. It just kept crashing at odd times. I checked the power with an oscilloscope, and managed to see the power dip as it crashed. Thats when it became an A1200t with an AT psu !

My original commodore 1200 came with a very heavy PSU, and that had no problem coping with a 030 card, 2.5 hard drive, squirrel etc. I later got a spare 1200 with a much, much lighter PSU. So it seems not a 1200's had the same power supply, I presume the heavier ones are better...

The A500 PSU that I have is just 2,5A, is that really a better option for my A1200 since the original PSU's output is 3A ?
