How to run an amiga install script?
« on: November 04, 2009, 02:48:16 AM »
I've been playing with amiga os3.x for awhile. I remembered alot of things but forgot just as much.
I'm trying to install amistart from the aminet archives.

There is an installer icon but it says unable to open
your tooltype :c:\installer. There is a file Amistart.install,
looks like a batch file or amiga script as far as I remember.
For the life of me, can't figure out how to run this?

It has a wrench icon in wb. Tried in wb says unknown command, failed returncode 10.
In cli it says not an executable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I've figured out editing the docbar and other stuff I wanted. This is
the last thing to set up, so of course its going to have to aggravate me
for awhile!

What Amiga system are you running into this problem on?  Have you looked in your C directory to verify that the Installer is there?  Is this a clean new install, or something else you are working on?
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

Change the icon to just contain "installer" as default tool instead of ":c/installer" (:c:\installer is totally bogus... this isnt MSDOS). Where do you do this? Hightlight the install icon and pick "Icon -> Information" from the menu.

Or open a shell and do "installer Amistart.install".

If the above fails, it probably means you dont have installer on your system, you can download one from f.ex http://aminet.net/package/util/misc/Installer-43_3

The scripts for installer are written in a lisp-alike language that has nothing to do with amiga scripts, or other DOS batch scripts.

I'm running amiga os3.x that comes with amiga forever.

I got the installer to run in workbench by choosing the installer program in the utilities drawer. Now the script runs and installs, but the program gets an error message after copying to wbstartup.

I installed the first package on aminet which may be old first, which didn't work either, perhaps the two are conflicting?

I am going to try a fresh amiga forever installtion, then try and re-install
amistart. Something I did screwed up the works I think...

Like I said, that was the last thing I wanted to set up, so of course it will have to aggravate me for awhile. I will go do the new amiga forever fresh install and then let you guys know what happens when I try and install amistart again...

Thanks for your help guys!

I read that it wasn`t  compatible with Workbench 3.0 ROM/disk.. Don`t use the emulator so can only make that comment in ignorance, sorry. What I am saying is don`t quote me on it.
