A4000T's PSU size == ATX size ?
« on: November 01, 2009, 05:19:52 PM »
Thinking about replacing my 4000T's original PSU with a better one, read some stories about burned up mobos and failures and I think my current audio problem might be the PSU starting to act strange..
There were various sizes of AT PSU's at the time, can someone confirm the size used on the QuickPack case is the same size as an ATX one ? If yes would only be a question of buying an ATX->AT converter.

Thx

It`s probably your Caps. on the motherboard.

An AT power supply is easier to hook up and no adapter needed. I bought this one...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817338025

It dropped right in and works on my 4000T. I didn't have any of the problems of the bad review by the way.

Can only offer info on Amiga Technologies case.
I have tried both ways: a replacement AT and an ATX with adapter, and in the end I stuck with the ATX. See my gallery pics for details.

@X-ray
Yes, now that you mention it mine is Amiga Technologies case too, maybe Quickpak's were the same....
I'll take a look at the pics..

I don't think so, at least in my case, there's no leaking or "swallowed" capacitors on the motherboard. Actually the audio/video is in a separate board, no bad capacitors apparently.
I'm thinking it's the -12V line coming from the PSU but don't have any equipment to measure it.

@X-Ray

Apparently your big and great gallery is gone, only got one pic related to socks or something...
Can you just say if the ATX one did not fit so well and why etc...

ATX fit fine, I installed 1 in the A4000T at amigakit. Obviously you need an adapter for the the power connectors.
