How good is the new Indivision OCS?
« on: October 27, 2009, 01:41:03 PM »
Has anybody tried this new flicker fixer for OCS Amiga's?  How does it compare to older flicker fixers back in the day?  I read the stats on it but I wanted actual opinions from people who used it.  Thanks.

Barney

Our Technician did a public demonstration of Indivision ECS at the recent Amiwest 2009 show.

It featured an Amiga 500 hooked upto a digital projector via the Indivision ECS

There will probably be a video of the demostration.

One problem with them is the VGA cable is too short.

If fitted in an A500 it does not reach to under the floppy drive (next to joystick 1) which is the best place on A500 to mount the VGA connector.

@AlexH

I wasnt aware that you owned an Indivision ECS

If customers have any specific requirements for length of the VGA cable with specific modifications fo their Amigas, please let us know and we will do our best to help.

IMHO the cable already degrades signal quality somewhat... maybe soldering a length of quality VGA cable directly from the board to a female d-sub would be better than a longer ribbon cable?

Possibly. A shielded cable might help too!

HUH?!?!?!. I have seen / installed loads of Indivisions. Not 1 has degraded signal. Can you show me some pictures?

As for the cable being to short, you cant tell me your not going to by 1 just because of that. Im sure you have the equipment to make a longer lead.

It's really no big issue, 99% of people don't care or notice. Compared my PIV or CV3D scandoublers (which output direct with no cable), there is *very slight* fringing around text, and the output, while still very nice, isn't quite as clear. I attribute this to the ribbon cable, which probably isn't the best method for transmitting video.

I'm *not* complaining, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the Indivision,  just saying that a ribbon cable of longer length may not be ideal if you want the best image quality. :-)

I'll be trying this soon on my A1200, and will be sure to post the results in a new thread, maybe with some pics.

It also depends on other things to like;

Monitor type; LCD / CRT.
Settings; Brightness, Contrast, Colour.

Everyones setup wont be the same in 98% of the cases.
Think I replied basically, cause it seems its being burnt at the stake, by people who dont even own / used 1.
