Hello from GLA
« on: October 26, 2009, 09:30:35 PM »
Hello from Glasgow

Been an Amiga user since about 91 when I got a second hand A500 it eventually died on me and got a second hand A1200 and had it ever since. Upgraded it to a tower about 1998 with HD, CD and 040 Accelerator. Got it out for the first time in a while and the Accelerator is not working. Goin to send it to the guy in France and see if it can be fixed. Would love to see the Amiga mainstream again. Previous to that I had a CPC464 and a 2600.

Welcome. And if that accelerator worked when you put it away, then corrosion might be the problem. Clean the connectors with a soft eraser, carefully pull and reset any removable chips. It if still doesn't work, then Jean-Jacques in France is about as good as they come.

Plaz, Small corrosion is part of the issue but there is also a surface mount resistor which has cracked.

Hehe - Parkhall or Duntocher maybe?  I'm from Faifley originally but living in sunny Crookston now (actually worked in the Bouley club for a while in a previous life - a long time ago).

Ahh the memories we could probably share of wasted trips to the Glasgow Barra's for games that didn't work eh lol

skilgannon, neither its a crossing further down to the city. My wee brother actually worked for a trader there back in the day. Never worked in the boulie but got bladdered there a few times ha ha.

The CPC was cool as but I could never get some of the games to work. I had smash tv for it. But I miss my 2600 and playing Dark Chambers, Stargate and Joust

Joust!  Class :)

You're brother worked for a trader in the Barras - hehe - that must have been interesting.  I used to love the Barras, moreso when I was older (around 19/21) as I was really friendly with the old rogue Joe Reagan and used to help him occassionally with getting "suspect" games to work for distribution but most of all I remember Mick and Jason (don't know if you rememember any of these guys) who ran a stall for amiga only and used to run Sensi competitions - hehe.  Best of all was Christmas Eve when Mick would load up the stall with cans of Tennants for his regulars who would get p1ssed with everyone and just have a good laugh.  Not a lot of trading went on that day lol.  Date wise - this would have been between 1988 and 1991/2 I guess.  I think Jase used to work for the Inland Revenue as well - classic!
