A3000t "t" for toast?
« on: October 18, 2009, 08:53:15 PM »
Just got a 3000t and only getting a purple screen {no insert disk animation} Tried ram & chips from a working 3000d but still same result.  Jumpers are all correct and I'm thinking  battery leakage, although the area seems pretty clean.  Anything I should also be looking at?

Check if memory (ZIP & DIP) are correctly inserted on their support.

Well, I re-seated all the zips, same result!  I'm guessing the MObo is just done!  I'm sure the memory, roms and chips are all good.

Try reseating Denise chip, if that does not work. Unplug floppy drive cable and see what happens.

There are no other expansion boards present, right?

Taking a shot in the dark, I'd say if the screen is purple then it's checking the SCSI bus or the floppy. I presume you've tried with no hard disk as well... what happens if you leave the machine for a while, say an hour or two?
Might just be a job for a recapping...

Did you check the voltages with the power supply under load ?

Blinking of the caps lock may indicate a hardware problem depending on the number of blinks.

Capslock Key:
Stays on for several secs One blink (ROM checksum failed)
Two blinks (RAM test failed)
Three blinks (Whatchdog timer)
Four blinks (A short exists between
2 lines or one of the
special keys)

Please note that the capslock 'blinks' are short in duration (about one
second) and that your screen colors may falsely indicate a problem when
you do a 'warm' boot depending on what state the Amiga was in before the
warm boot. Its best to watch for these diagostic errors upon initial
startup. If your Amiga exhibits any of these errors frequently, you should
take it to an........

Tried leaving machine on for a couple hours as suggested... no change.  Worst case scenario, I have a good parts machine or if by some stroke of luck, I come across a A3000t motherboard looking for a new home!
Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll keep plugging away... I'm quite persistent!

Did you use the PSU tick or the internal motherboard's Vsync? To ensure that the A3000 works, connect jumper J350 across pins 2-3 to ensure that the machine generates the TICK signal from the VSYNC signal.

That's a fail-proof way to eliminate the lack of "tick" signal as a fail cause.

Recapping the board can help, too.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

Check the orientation of the rom chips. I vaguely remember a purple screen on my 3000T when I switched to 3.1 roms.
