A1200 with new HD but no working floppy
« on: November 07, 2003, 05:19:40 PM »
All,

I have recently got a new HD for my Amiga as my old FJ 3Gb drive died.  However when I attempt to boot from my floppy drive, it starts to access the floppy drive and displays message - Not a DOS disk in DF0

I have tried my OS 3.9 Emergency Floppy, plus 2 backup boot floppies, but with no success.

Is there any advise/ideas?

Have you tried it with no HDD in it? I had a simular problem with the IDE cable not being in properly.

@ Jono:

Two things come to mind, since you say that you've tried different disks inside the drive and none worked, which eliminates possibilities of damaged/bad disks:

#1. Take a q-tip and put some alcohol on it and clean the inside of the drive, and see if you can reach the drive's head and clean it too. It could be dirty. Keep switching to a clean/new q-tip and rub it in alcohol as long as you don't see any more dirt comming out from the inside.

#2. If the drive is indeed DOA, getting a new one should not be a problem. Ebay, Amiga dealers, Amibench, Amiga.org  classifieds...tons of places to look for a spare! :-)

Yes ~I have tried with no hdd or the hdd interface in it.

The problem is that the floppy starts to be read and then stops reading.  If I try a game disk that worked fine last week, this just repeatedly reattempts to read the floppy.

Any other suggestions

Well I found the floppy drive+cable worked okay when using this in my brothers A1200.  But it did throw up a few error reading block messages.  Strange because none of these occurred when using the same floppies on my brothers floppy drive.

Anyway, managed to get my HD built to a point whereby I no longer need to use the floppy so can use my Amiga now, and will find a replacement floppy drive.

Many thanks for all the suggestions/help.
