Amiga25 Foundation launch
« on: October 13, 2009, 10:27:17 AM »
For some time I have watched the discussions on many sites, and stuck my foot in it occassionaly by misunderstanding all the issues and feelings around, but I believe that now is a good time to try and bring us all together and I would like to propose the Amiga25 Foundation. Please goto the link below, read and then comment.

http://www.amiga25.com

This is work in progress, and a lot of documentation is needed before end of year, but a lot of behind the scenes progress is being made to hopefully benefit all.

All the best

Steve Jones

edit: For those who do not know me I owned the companies that produced Checkmate A1500 (the original), Siamese System and PCI Amiga. I now run ClusterUK Developments which make and sell the iMica range of IcAros powered computers.

Great effort clusterUk. Sun Tzu taught us to turn any disadvantage into an advantage. Amiga is divided. Let's make this diversity a strength.

Well I don't want to discourage you too much, but this kind of discussion has come up many times in the past, and each time it has been shot down by one or more of the fractured Amiga groups for multiple reasons, so I would not get your hopes up too high, until you see some agreement and cooperation from the developers in control of each separate group.  I was one of the naive people that put out a call for unification, or at least cooperation in the past, so I applaud your sentiment and efforts and hope that it is received better now than it has been in the past.

The divide between many of the key people on each side is (or was) very intense, and you know how difficult the ego's of many developers can be to deal with.  Also, how do you plan to gain the trust and reassure the members that the money collected will not be misused?

I wish you good luck in your endeavor.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

Under your name at the bottom of the main page you have "Amiga25 Developments Ltd" I did a search on companies house and there is no company of that name showing as being registered. So I'm out.

There are some differences this time, indeed. First of all, Amiga25 is not about unification, but about common features. Amiga25 role is not trying to unificate the whole Amiga community if it doesn't want to, nor to create any 'new everybody's OS', but only encouraging coders to write software that can be useful for ALL the 'amiga flavours' available today. Just think at something like NoWinEd or WookieChat, which are available for every Amigaish operating systems out there. Encouraging, in the plans, means money.

Great concept. For years I've thought of the Amiga as a charity - legal nonprofit status could help a lot. I'm particularly interested in your plans to get old software available for sale - something like Steam or the iPhone App store for the Amiga could do wonders for commercial distribution.

Be prepared for some backlash, but don't think anything of it - it comes with the territory (nonprofit, that is... but the Amiga, too, I suppose ;)).

Please do not be to hasty, I set the company up two days ago and it is going through companies house now. It can take a few days to appear.

And to be fair, I have not asked for anybodys money yet.
