WTS A1200 - what price range?
« on: October 10, 2009, 05:50:16 AM »
Hi. I've got an Amiga 1200, with some kind of '030 accelerator in it, slightly yellowed case, that I want to see go to a good home.

(I'll try to figure out what its exact stats are over the next couple of days)

I'm an Atarian at heart, and dabbled slightly with Amiga stuff over the years. I've had an A1000, 2000, and 2 1200's. I bought this one off Ebay a few years ago with the idea of fixing it up, but honestly, all my time goes to my Atari computers.

I've always like the Amiga's - good machines. So I really hate to see this one set stored away in a closet.

I have no idea what A1200's go for these days. IIRC, I paid $250 for this one. Someone told me that they thought their prices had not held up too well, compared to Atari Falcons, TT's and STacy's.

So my question is, what is a reasonable starting out price to ask?

Thanks everyone.

A working 1200 with an 030 Accelerator should get you at least $250 if you want to do eBay. I wouldn't ask for that here though. I wish more people would just "hook each other up" in this hobby instead of the price wars that eBay generates.

I understand. Thanks for the reply.

I am having trouble getting on your board. Get strange characters after each keypress.

$200-$250 for an A1200 with an '030 is entirely reasonable, IMHO, even asking on a forum. Anything less than $200 and I bet it sells quick!

The Atari stuff seems much harder to find, whereas you can still buy a NIB A1200. (I've been casually looking for a nice STe for ages with no luck.)

Well, This may be a bit self serving, but I've been trying to get an Amiga since I sold my 4000T PPC to pay for my wedding and stuff.  I have little money now as well but would love to give your A1200 a good home.  If you are willing to talk other things in trade, I;d be more then willing to do that.

PM me if this sounds good to you.

Hmm, what software are you using to try to access it? I'm not sure about Amiga users, but most Windows people use a DOS prompt or Hyperterminal. Under Linux, I use the shell/konsole, and with Atari there are a couple of apps that work.

Full text and ANSI is supported. Be careful in your preferences about how you have full duplex and half duplex set.

Let me know if you still can't get it to work, I'll help any way I can. :)

Using DCtelnet on the Amiga. I am able to connect to other PC and Amiga systems fine, just not yours. I will try it from my Mac or PC later.

Did you already sell your A1200?  I have some things that might interest you since you seem to be into hardware modding and the such...

What are the kind of things that would make anyone prefer an Atari over an Amiga after having owned both?

It would seem to me that an A1200 w/030 inside would be much more useful and fun than any old Atari could be, but never having used any old Atari except a 2600 console, I don't really know how good the Falcon or other Ataris can be.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

amiga 1200 itself is worth about 100$ I guess. The 030 alone can sell 150-250$'ish depending on its model.

Not wishing to sound rude but looking at the screenshots of your falcon desktop its not running a very nice looking OS.
