SLIP connection using Windows - Genesis
« on: September 29, 2009, 08:39:24 AM »
I don't know is this the right place to ask this, but :
Is there a (dummies) guide how to have a internet connection on Amiga, using SLIP connection on Windows ? Can someone write a small guide for me?

My hardware and software configurations :
Amiga 1200
-2 mb chip ram, 4 mb fast
-Workbench 3.1
- kickstart 3.1
- working serial cable connection (file transfers ok)
- Genesis TCP/IP
- Aweb (could not get Voyager to work)

My PC is using Windows XP Home.
And the windows side configuration is my problem, I don't understand how to share my internet connection using SLIP ?
On Amiga side the Genesis connection wizard ask's what .device I'll be using, the options are aslip.device, rhslip.device and rhcslip.device. Which one of these ? Thanks alot for the answers!(hopefully I get some :))

A1200, Blizzard 1260 + 64mb, Indivision AGA, Subway USB, 8GB CF-HD, PCMCIA network card, OS 3.9.
And a couple of A600\'s :).

You probably need a driver for WinXP to use TCP/IP over serial cable. Don't know if one exists. Here is one for Win98: http://aminet.net/package/comm/tcp/NullTCP

IMHO you should get a PCMCIA network card and use Ethernet.
These archives contain Amiga drivers and lists of supported cards:
http://aminet.net/package/driver/net/cnetdevice
http://aminet.net/package/driver/net/3c589
http://aminet.net/package/driver/net/prism2

From memory ( Which I admit is very hazey) In win2k ( which underneath is pretty much what XP is ) you didnt need a driver just needed to set-up an incomming connenction on the COM port connected to the Amiga and the set it to share the internet connection.

Now the Amiga side bothering me =) Let's put it this way :
Does someone have/had a working SLIP configuration between Amiga and PC Windows ? What do you do when the Amiga side aks's for device configuration file (genesis)?

BTW, I have a 3com etherlink III pcmcia network card, but I never get it working with direct cable, since I dont have a router. And the cable I'm using is an xbob360 ethernet cable, works fine with my laptop-xbox connection, should work with my miggy.I feel like I've tried everything (miami, amitcp, genesis, network boot disk) :madashell:...

Yes a very very long time ago.  I used miami and not genesis, but shouldbe be too much different.  You just need to select the SLIp.device or whatever it is called.  I used a guid on the net but no idea where I got it.  Do a serach on miami and SLIP

Genesis reguires a configuration file after I select rhslip.device, and I dont know where to get it, or how to edit it myself. Any ideas on that ?
