Fryingpan dvd non copyable on pc
« on: September 23, 2009, 06:35:13 AM »
I burned a datadvd witch contains a dir with a lot off files and a few subdirs.
Burning went allright and after burning I tested to see I could acces these files on my peg2..ok.
Even copying etc is ok on the pegasos.
Then I wanted to copy the contains from the dvd onto the harddisk from the xp pc.
I can read the dvd ok and also I am able to copy single files but there are a lot of dir's which won't let them copy themselves.
Pc says unable to read from source..
Also information off these files on pc says read only if that makes a difference?
Pegasos tells me files are readable writeable..
Please some advice.
Latest Fpan with key btw and +DVD.

I had problems also using Frying Pan but with WinUAE, i make a DVD with a five directories with .info icon files and a lot of files inside, but when i try to read from PC my case is worst, i can't see any file or directory, and from WinUAE all the .info icon files are lost. Maybe is something wrong with Frying Pan and DVD's, because if i include one dir only with a lot of files, then all the contain is ok.

Initial thought is path length. Are there lots of nested folders on the DVD?

It's a root dir containing 3259 subdirs and 51687 files.
Subdirs also contain a lot off files.

I also tried an other dir much smaller same problem.
As soon as I pack the dir into one file (.zip) and unpack it on the xp machine it is ok.
But this is quite a longgoing project as packing and unpacking takes quite some time.

Maybe as someone on morphzone suggested it has something to do with the names off the files?

Did you ever solve this?

I've had similar problems before. Infact a CD I burnt using AmiDVD on OS4 had one dir that did not show on Workbench but did exist! :-?

But It think the problem is the read only protections bits. You see, although it is logical for a CDROM disc to be read only, when a dir is copied to the HD it will also be read only and thus non-writable! :-o

That said, I don't know how to stop a disc from being unreadable, but kmnow it can happen. For example, I wanted to check out the X1000 boot CD in my Mac. It mounted it but the disc was completely empty! :-o
Welcome Vanilla. To your continuing tour of duty. :-)
