Update of the comparative between AmigaOS 4.1 and MorphOS 2.3
« on: September 20, 2009, 10:09:45 AM »
The magazine Obligement publish today an update of the comparative about performance between AmigaOS 4.1 and MorphOS 2.3 on Pegasos II.

This comparative is based on 23 groups of benchmarks including boot time, processor, 3D, USB, IDE hard disk, WarpOS emulation, 68k emulation, etc.

This update add 3 new tests (CD/DVD read, DvPlayer and DnetC), have made a revision of 2 old tests (MPlayer and Lha) and add new conclusions.

No subjective comparison was made, all benchmarks are based on numbers.

The article is in french but very easy to understand, and it's available on

An english (Google) translation is available here :

Amazing comparison. OS4.1 seems to be under-optimized. :(

I would hold judgement until the 'Final" release of OS4.1 comes out :-)

I would expect it on the Pegasos II, to be honest. It seems as if driver level stuff needs a bit of work yet. Look at the USB as a prime example there, It seems as if 4.1 doesn't utilise the USB2 capability of the machine. As hardware goes, the Pegasos II is MorphOS's "home turf", so you can expect it to be pretty well tuned by now.

I wonder how many Pegasos II users actually have both OS?

So I was trying to find more information about this final release, didn't find much of anything indicating that it wasn't final already. Perhaps you can provide a link to some official information on that?

It would be nice if it was possible to try before you buy like MorphOS allows.

Yeah, that might be a nice idea. I suspect the Peg 2 owners that would consider buying OS4 in the first place are less likely to be swayed by comparisons like this one in the first place though.

I suspect by "final" (in quotes) he means once there are no more updates. There have been a couple of OS4.1 updates already. I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't more to come.
