A1200 IDE port failure?
« on: September 15, 2009, 06:22:21 AM »
Was wondering why a working IDE port would all of a sudden fail? I had been happily booting from a CF to IDE with 2GB (1+1) and had an x4IDE adapter installed. I had just tried the software installation to turn on the second port and my Ami just did a reboot and from then on all I get is "Insert Workbench" screen. :(  It will boot off floppy.

I have removed the x4IDE and replaced the CF with another drive and cable. No dice.

Any suggestions?

Depending on what I hear from vesalia.de, as there might be warranty to cover this as this was a recent purchase... If not, I'll definitely look into this. The capacitors you are talking about, are these normal ones or are they surface mount? I hate surface mount ones...

Thanks for the info!

Hi AmigaNow, Most of the Amigas 1200 and 4000 had surface mount components. Too bad, the same thing happened with my A4000D. :( That's why I bought a Buddah IDE.
[edit]
Sorry, almost forgot to mention the A600 is also has an SMC.

Well, I thought I would give an update. I sent back my mobo to vesalia.de for repair/replacement back in early October. They initially did not find a problem, but said they would do more extensive testing. Last I've heard from them was about 1.5 months ago.     :(

Does anyone know if their repair department is off on an extended vacation?
