Is it me, or does nobody comment on gallery images any more?

The title says it all really.

It seems both a bit of a shame and somewhat ironic that nobody seems to bother any more. Immediately after the move to vBulletin, when the old gallery was nothing but a collection of numbered images and orphaned database tables, there was quite a lot of upset that it was gone (not the least of which was from me, to be fair) and worry that it might not return.

When setting out to migrate it, there were many pleas that the comments be preserved. Looking through the recent submissions, it seems just as well that we did, since the old image comments are pretty much the only ones there.

Still, maybe it's just me...

I stopped commenting for two reasons:

1. There is no notification of new posts. I posted all over the place after the site change, but without notification I can't see if somebody replied to my post. I tried searching for the images I posted on, got tired, bored and gave up.

2. You can't see image comments when not logged in. I usually browse without being logged in (if I'm at a different computer) and if I don't see any comments, I have much less incentive to post.

I think the lack of comments is a direct result of layout changes. If the default location of the random gallery image(s) changed to an area of the page that didn't require scrolling or resizing to reach, click-through and comment rates might be much higher.

On the new site, the only thing I see when I first browse to Amiga.org is the last ten active threads. (That's with Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Safari on Windows at 1920x1200, default system and browser font settings.)

On the old site, the latest posts, the first couple news articles, and a random gallery image were all visible without resizing.

Same here, sometimes the new amiga.org is worst than old one.

I believe the site changes, scared a lot of people away.   Call it old habit, or fear of change.  But I think there are fewer posts across the board especially in the gallery.  I myself find myself using the site less..   It's still a great site, and i know a lot of hard work goes into it.

Is there a technical reason why we can't see image comments when not logged in?  I often glance over the board while not logged in, and therefore don't see image comments when I click on one.  I didn't even realize we COULD still comment on images anymore until a few weeks ago.

I guess it is just a feature of photoplog. Maybe there is an administrative option that displays comments regardless.

1) I can't do much about that one.

2) All you guys had to do was ask.  Image comments should now be viewable by all.
