A chance to make some $$$$
« on: September 12, 2009, 03:13:09 PM »
Hi, I live in Cecil County Maryland and am hoping to find someone relatively close to me who is familiar with the Sam and getting it online. I have verizon dsl wireless modem and have had absolutely no success at getting my sam or my ps3 online with it. If i can find someone willing to get this working for me I'd be more than happy to pay them well for their time and effort. Thanks, Jerimy

The trick is that Verizon requires the use of PPPoE.

If your OS4 supports PPPoE then it is very easy to get online.
If your OS4 does not support PPPoE then it is impossible to get online.

The "modem" that Verizon gave me secretly has a router built in.  Mine is a wired model.

I went out to Best Buy and bought a new Verizon DSL modem and even though we had Verizon setup already, they had to send a command to reset their servers because it can take a few hours to a day for their servers to accept a new modem.  I think it has to do with security.

I'm not familiar enough with the SAM or OS4 to help you.

i dont know if this helps but some wireless modem can only be config with a LAN cable before you can use the wireless LAN.

check for new firmware for the modem.

Well, due to the frustration I've experienced attempting to get my PS3 & Yosemite Samiga online and due also to the horrible customer service at Verizon I decided to cancel my account with them. From the get go my experience with verizon online has been annoying at best, they charged me for services that I never requested or signed up for and now they want to charge me 79.00 for early termination fee even though I was never able to use the service at all. I think I'm just going to pay it because I'm so happy to be rid of them, that's how negative my experience has been with them. And getting a human being on the phone to speak to practically took a miracle.
Some people say that SAM stands for Simple Amiga Motherboard which is pretty accurate I guess but getting a Sam online is not all that simple.

Normally, setting the SAM (& the PS3) to DHCP should have been sufficient. But maybe the router (or the line) was simply broken.

I don't like DSL either. Go with the cable company if they offer internet. My DSL experience was horrible also.. none of the departments are open 24/7 like the cable company.. just get a Netgear router and Cable internet and you should be in business.
