OS4.1 and Keyboard Mappings.
« on: September 12, 2009, 08:51:43 AM »
Hi all,

I'm looking for help setting up keyboard mappings on my OS4.1 install. I use a standard MS/Windows Keyboard which is sadly lacking a left and right Amiga key.

These two keys are still very much an important part of driving OS4.1. Can anyone help me out with some information on mapping the left and right alt or ctrl keys to be the Amiga keys?

Thanks,
Derek.

Hi Derek

On my Amiga0ne XE running OS4.1, I use a Memorex keyboard, the Left and Right Windows keys work for me. IE:- Ctr - L Win - R Win gives me a soft reboot.

The Windows keyboard I use has a left and a right 'Windows' key and they act as my two Amiga keys. I also found that ticking Amiga Keyboard within the Input Preferences fixed a few of my other keyboard mapping problems I was initially suffering from as well.

The two windows keys should be mapped as left and right amiga respectively. If not, check your Uboot preferences, it may be that for some reason you don't have "windows" keyboard selected?

@mchaggis

I run OS4.1 on a MicroA1 with a standard "US" style pc keyboard.  Currently using an hp keyboard, but have also used an IBM keyboard from an old IBM Aptiva pc.

The purpose of the keys changes depending on the activity.

For example, there are two types of system reset from the keyboard,
cold boot = ctrl alt alt
warm boot = ctrl

Some programs have keyboard shortcuts for menus.  I don't use keyboard shortcuts very often except for cutting and pasting.

right Amiga key seems to be mapped to right windows key for menu shortcuts

cut = c
paste = v

The AmigaPPC version of E-UAE is an exception, because it has some keyboard shortcuts to control an emulated Amiga system.  For example to quit E-UAE and return to OS4, I use ctrl  alt  Q
