Stupid A1200 question - how do you remove the metal shield?
« on: September 10, 2009, 10:06:38 PM »
I'm sure I've done it before, but the last time I tried, I managed to lift the bottom-right corner, near the accelerator socket, but I couldn't figure out what was holding it down still.  I'm pretty sure I undid all the metal flip bits.

Could you show any pictures of your attempt so far?

Sometimes you have to wiggle the metal tabs a bit even if they're standing straight up while you pull at the shield. They're generally distorted from repeated removals and tend to catch even when up. There shouldn't be any screws to remove as I recall.

Remove the 2 screws holding the front of the shield and the one holding down the floppy drive (disconnect this and place to one side).

Bend all tabs straight upwards ... Be advised that there is a hidden tab up by the mouse port which is folded the opposite way to all the rest - it sits between the metal shield and the case (crafty buggers lol!)

Give the shield a little wiggle and it should separate with some minor coaxing.
To err is human ... to BOING divine!
