Wanted: Set of Workbench 3.1 Floppies
« on: September 10, 2009, 03:01:04 AM »
Hi guys!

First, let me say that I may cross a line with this request, and if I do, please inform me and nuke this thread!

I need a set of Workbench 3.1 Install floppies.  I currently have WB 3.1 (and a KickStart 3.1 ROM) installed in my Amiga 2000, but the WB 3.1 floppies that came with my Amiga were toast years before I got 'em.  I'm looking at setting up a new SCSI drive for my A2000, and I'd like to create a "fresh" installation on my new drive.

I'm genuinely a bit confused about the proper way to acquire a new set of floppies (home-made or otherwise!) - since I have WB 3.1 and KS 3.1 already (though not in a working floppy format), am I allowed to see if someone will create a set of dupes for me?

Any guidance would be awesome!

Huxley

PS  Just a random thought - since my system is working now, and has a working CD reader, would it be possible to install WB 3.1 onto a blank drive from a CD, or would I actually need the floppies?

Do you have any old coverdisks from back in the day? Many of those have enough of a workable Workbench environment to get started with, i.e., boot into a desktop. Otherwise, you'll either have to buy a set of WB 3.1 floppies from someone here or on eBay.

Since you have a working CD drive, have you considered purchasing WB 3.5 OR 3.9? They both come on CD-ROM.

Wow, I guess I hadn't even thought about moving up to 3.5 or 3.9!  On my system (A2000 with 33MHz '040) would those systems be workable, or would they bog down my somewhat overloaded Miggy?

H.

I don't know how much memory you have but an 040 running at 33mhz should be good enough.

This link tells you what hardware you require. A Minimum of 4Mb fast with at least an 020 processor for OS3.5

3.5 might be a little slicker than 3.9 on an A2000. You'd be better off confirming this via someone with first hand experience.

All the best,

Kin
