anybody need any 68040s

DoomMaster knows all, the knowledge of the 68050 being a possible upgrade of the 68040 is warrent enough for all to hail him as the new king.

I actually love his posts, as its like a familiar sight on my way to work.

so these processors worth buying?

im currently putting 2 A1200s in custom cases and hoping to boost up the one that just has the 8Mb ram and fpu accelerator thingy doodah.

i really want a 1260. anyone got any for sale? i dont see the point of going PPC as im gonna get a pegasos II. anyone gonna comment on the reasons behind why i should go for AmigaOne rather than Pegasos?

Doommaster, your opinions are noted.  But, don't try to pass off your personal feelings as fact.  "In general", process improvements and technological advancements create better products.  Can you show me a car from the 50s or 60s that gets 60 MPG?  How about one that doesn't polute the environment even?

Anyway, back on topic.  I wish this auction was around when I bought my 040.  I think I paid $300 for the CPU alone.   :-o

That depends if you have something to put them in. You can't just plonk them in an A1200, they need to go on a suitable expansion board. Basically, they're useful if you've already got an '040 board but the CPU itself is dead.

  As an old guy that bought cars from the 60's new ( well 69 Chevelle) you don't know what you are talking about. I have several  muscle cars that we are restoring or have restored. None of them will go much over 100k miles reliably when daily driven as hard as newer cars. I have a Mazda RX7 with over 200k miles that is still driven daily (hard) by my son. My last work truck (94 chevy) had close to 200k when I sold it and bought a 2000. It never needed any repair except an altenator. It got much better fuel milage, with great towing power,  than any of my other trucks I have owned ,including a 69 ford. Your mil grade and toy 1200 is funny but the car comment shows ignorance of modern advances in the auto industry. Do you remember points and all the other associated maintence hassles?

BTW the muscle cars interiors are still alot of vinyls and plastic! Of course our 58 Buick isn't :-D

Can you say Crosley Hotshot, good, now say it five times fast . Crosleys are these pretty tiny old cars, 40s or 50s,  there are three, a sports coupe, a mid size (well, they're all tiny, but I think the non-sports one had a top or maybe 4 seats? And there is a truck, which my Uncle has, supposed to get 52Mpg tops, two seater and a real tiny flat bed. Still runs...

Aside from the trolling and squabbling - I think cars are a good analogy with Amigas - many drive older cars because they happen to like them...they have more character, and were possibly way ahead of their time. Like my 1986 Toyota Supra for example....hmm wonder if the censorship will block out analogy....ANAL, analogy, analogous.

But there IS a 68070 made by Philips.. It's a 68000 with an MMU + a DMA controller and two serial ports.. Used in the Philips CDi machines. :-)

You really can't help exposing your shocking ignorance of virtually anything, can you? Simply sticking remarks in upper case does not make them true and does not mean you are speaking with any authority.

I have used a 68040 processor in my amiga since 1996 and never experienced any thermal instability. I now have 2 68040 powered systems and both run cool.

Finally, in my experience, the 50MHz 68060 runs cooler than the 50MHz 68030. No doubt the static 3.3v design helps there. As an electronics expert, surely you know that?

There is also a 3.3v 68040, it just hasn't been used in any amiga processor expansion to my knowledge.

I personally do NOT use the 68040 processor. They tend to over-heat and are not reliable enough for me. The 68030, 68050, and 68060 are better processors, the 68030 being the highest quality and best built of all the 68000 Series. The 68010, 68020, and the military-spec 68000 are also high quality, very well made processors. Sorry, but the 68040 is the worst of all the 68000 Series processors, so I do not need the ones you are selling. I have a 68040 board that I want to trade for the Commodore 68020 or 030 board.  

Theres nothing wrong with the 040 there a lot better than an 030 mine on my blizzard ppc has never overheated  even after 8 to 10 hours use . :-)

Still on 50 pence thats a bargain at the moment. I would have put a reserve on them not long ago these would cost a fortune. :-)  :-)  :-)
