A4000 Mediator? Desktop or Tower?
« on: November 03, 2003, 09:27:27 PM »
I really like the idea of keeping my new A4000 in the original case. Do you think getting a Mediator would make the case crowded?

Opinions anyone?

If I remember correctly, the mediator can fit in a 4000D. If it doesn't, you can always send the 4000 to me. Even without the mediator, I'll put it to good use.  :-P  :-D

[EDIT]

The mediator replaces the original zorroIII daughter card.

Hi

I understand that - I was just wondering if a Mediator with a SCSI controller, graphics card, network card and soundcard would make the A4000 a little hot / crowded - does anyone have any experience of this?

One Model of the Mediator will fit into a Standard A4000. There are some issues to deal with though.
1. There is very little space for expansion.
2. The standard A4000 power supply is very low wattage and doesn't support muchg expansion.

Once I added 2 SCSI Hard Drives and the CD-ROM Drive things started running very hot.

If you are going to add a Voodoo3 Card I suggest going to an A4000 Tower.

The Elbox 4000 Tower comes with the Mediator and has nore expansion slots than the 4000Di Mediator.

Nuh-uh. As far as I know, that's ALOT of juice to power all those goodies and the A4000PS is wimpy in comparison.

[EDIT] - My post is redundant. Next time, I shoud read the post below, so  I don't repeat given information.

Your post isn't redundant - I wanted as many opinions as possible. You agreeing with someone else's opinion is helpful to me, as it gives me an idea of the general concensus of opinion...

Bah, I'm gibbering now, time to crash oot..

I'm planning on running the 4000Di with a Voodoo card, Sound Blaster, PCI NIC, and my A4091 SCSI.  This is all of the slots filled.  It looks like there is room up front to run a 60mm fan to cool the card slots.  Also, I'll be swapping the standard PS for an 250W AT/ATX model.  I just need to figure out what to do with the power switch.  I'd like to have it look as original as possible from the outside.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(
