A1200 capacitor help.

Hello,

I finally took out my Amiga 1200, and upon opening it up and removing the RF shield that sits on top of the motherboard, it appears that some of the small silver capacitors have already begun to leak I am gonna go ahead and  remove them/clean the affected areas.  I havent tried booting it yet or even connect the power on.  I figured that replacing the capacitors on the board would be better to do first, then try powering it up.

My question is, is there a detailed guide or a list of the capacitors I would need or order off a site like Digikey, or does anyone have a list on hand what all parts you can order that would work for this board? Preferably I just want to go ahead and replace all the capactors on the board.

Well that is very simple. Just look at the board and see what capacitor values are on it and write them down. :-) Seriously. The values are written down on them. Voltage doesn't have to match but the higher the better.

I have no idea if the different revisions of Amiga 1200 have different values and a different amount of capacitors. I know that is the case for Amiga 600 computers.

You know, I seem to recall asking this very same question a few months ago. Somebody posted a link to a page which listed the various components.

At some point, I was planning to replace my electrolytics with tantalum caps.

Tantalums are way more fun.  Noisy molten explosive failures instead of sneaky, slow and quiet.

Decent quality tantalum caps (not the bead kind) shouldn't really do much exploding

I've only had it happen with vintage systems that had been sitting powered off for some time (years.)  They do make quite a lightshow and can turn into projectiles.

I wonder which is more damaging?

As the tantalums cause a short, I'd bet they're more likely to break something besides a trace on the board.

Panasonic and UCC make high quality SMD electrolytics which should last much longer than the originals. Both brands readily available at Digikey.

The reason why I asked for all the capacitors and the links on digikey for them is because I dont want to get the wrong ones

Went over at digikey, and kinda looks overwhelming... Anyone got a few moments to get the links from digikey on the caps id need to order? Id appreciate it

Yeah. I used normal radial capacitors in all my Amiga 4000 systems.

I will soon begin to check and replace all capacitors on Amiga 1200 motherboards also. The ones with green writing on it really are already dead. Those were some very bad capacitors. The black ones seem to hold out the longest and I suggest if you have a lot Amiga's to begin with the Amiga's which have green capacitors.

The brand I use is Yageo which is a good brand sold by for example Conrad.
