AmiTCP DNS issues
« on: September 03, 2009, 06:48:11 PM »
EDIT: Solved my DNS issues now.

Hi,

I've now got my Ethernet card to work... sort of.

Pinging IP addresses seems to work, but whenever I try to ping a network address, there's a pause, then it appends my domain name (the wrong domain name, it should be Belkin instead of d-linc.co.uk as I originally set it up - what do I edit to change this?) to the original request (ie, irc.esper.net -> irc.esper.net.d-linc.co.uk), which then resolves to my public IP (which may be because *d-linc.co.uk actually does resolve to my public IP).

Also, two other problems:

  • How do I set AmiTCP up for DHCP? I read something about an ARexx script and lots of complications.
  • How do I stop AmiTCP from keeping the AmigaDOS window open on boot? It's tedious having to resize it and hide it behind the Workbench window every boot.
Edit: yeah, I know version 2 is a crusty old version of AmiTCP, but that's the version I was recommended by someone given the fact that I only had 720kB disks to transfer stuff over. I'll probably upgrade/swap as soon as I can download a better version on the Amiga.

A-ha!

Quote
The "Domain names to search" are the domain names which are appended to a
given host name on the search. If you have a name "foo" and the domain
names to search are "bar.edu" and "zip.zop" then "foo.bar.edu" is tried
first, and if that fails, "foo.zip.zop" is tried next. If the name to
search includes the domain part, it is searched as it is.
I set "Domain names to search" as d-linc.co.uk =(

EDIT: It seems to work after the Amiga has been on for a while. Maybe it just takes a long time for AmiTCP to get its bearings...
EDIT: Or maybe not. It seems to only work every once in a blue moon.

OK. By removing all nameservers apart from my router, I've managed to get DNS.

Unfortunately, it takes about 5 minutes to resolve each address. Old stack + old computer + old network card?
