Where is Cammy
« on: August 28, 2009, 03:35:59 PM »
Hi AmigaFans,

Has everyone given up or something. I was very enthusiastic about having some good coders for my game designs. I was hoping to coordinate with Cammy and her friends. She hasn't responded to my email. I am a little secretitive about my game ideas, especially when I have months of research to do on some of them.
I use to write sci-fi adventure stories in my teens and would like to develop some of them into games. If Cammy doesn't want to help. I know of only one other 68k/ppc coder who could help.
It's is not about money. I am as fanatical about the Amiga as you know who is. Microsoft screws up everything it does. PCs nowadays are just junk with a lot of wasted potential.
We need to mantain our focus and hold on to our hobby computer. There is plenty of opportunity in the age of the internet.

Hi Fanscale,

She's in Australia and probably in bed.  I just chatted with her on IRC a few hours ago.  She's learning to program in AmigaE.

As for finding coders for your games, Cammy and her significant other, Rebel, are graphic designers with plenty on their plate.  They had enough trouble finding coders for Halloween Nightmare that Cammy is learning to do it herself.  Do you know how to code?  I can teach you to code in AmigaE if you like.  Once you've learned that you can move up to PortablE and generate code for PowerPC units and AROS as well as 68k.

Hello Fanscale. I have never received an email from you, did you send it to undergroundarcade at gmail (dot) com? If you mean that you sent a private message through this forum, it never arrived because there is a serious bug in the private messaging system on this forum with over half the messages sent not being received.

You are very welcome to discuss your ideas with us, but I must warn you that I personally have NO EXPERIENCE AT ALL with coding. I have only just begun to learn the very basics of AmigaE in the past couple of weeks (thanks to Samurai Crow), and it could be years before I'm able to code even the most simple game.

Like you, I've also got plenty of ideas for epic new Amiga games. Together with some of the other creative members of Underground Arcade, we've come up with several characters, locations, situations and stories that we'd love to use in many of our upcoming games. Unfortunately we're only half a games development team here, and many of our members have disappeared or lost hope over the past year.

We've also been spread incredibly thin over several projects. Apart from working on a few games, I've been doing betatesting for a lot of Amiga software and hardware developers, which I really like to do because these poor developers sometimes have NO ONE ELSE offer to help them.

If you really want to get involved, you need to get on IRC! There are plenty of Amiga IRC channels where we can help one another and bounce ideas off each other. Forums are great too, but a lot of the time the actual work gets done on IRC or in person. If you need any help getting on IRC, let me know.

We haven't given up on making games for the Amiga, and we never will.

Try emptying your inboxes more often. You don't have the limitless XOOPS PM inbox of old. If a recipients inbox is full, they won't receive your message. Nor will it be resent automatically several times until it is received or dropped. This isn't email we're talking about.

After two years of not emptying my private messages inbox...

Inbox contains 30 messages.
You have 30 messages stored, of a total 250 allowed.

Surely this isn't the problem.

Hmm, I'm thinking of starting an Amiga game project at some point in the near future, too. It'd likely be based on an idea for an RPG I've already had with a friend, though I would also probably need to find other more experienced people to help =P

Also, _ThEcRoW: Some of us frequent #amigaworld and other channels on irc.amigaworld.net.

Thanks guys, I got both private messages. I guess it's fixed now. But just to be safe, if anyone needs to send any important information in future it's better if I receive it by email, at least I'll have a copy of it on the Amiga then.

There are several IRC channels where I've found Amiga chat. Here are some of the ones I frequent:

#Amiga on irc.efnet.net
#AmigaE and #PPA on irc.freenode.net
#Amigans #Amiga68k and #AmigaWorld on irc.amigaworld.net
#abime.net and #Coders on irc.projectmage.com
#AmigaZone on irc.oz.org

And there are probably other Amiga IRC channels out there too.

A quick point about the PM system in vBulletin. If you can't find old messages, don't forget to check your options (see attached).

You will notice that there are a number of filtering options that may be blocking your view, in particular the date range.

Also note that you can download your inbox as either XML, CSV or plain text.
