Amiga BBS Software

Hello,

I am looking for information on old Amiga BBS software packages.  Running a telnettable BBS is a big project of redundancy in this age, but I always loved running an Amiga BBS.

I purchased a SAM awhile back with the intent of starting up a telnet BBS to relive some of the fun I had in the 90's on my old A4000.  At one time I was a legal and registered owner of Excelsior, DLG, Cnet and Zeus BBS.  Near the start of this year I had the BBS all configed running Zeus on a PPC/Bvision A1200, which ran fine.  Recently I tried swapping out that BBS SW build over to the SAM and was met with a number of problems with several of the Zeus GUI cfg programs that I seemingly cannot work around.  I need something that will run well on the SAM, but I am having trouble tracking down much info on some of the old BBS packages so I can grab them and give them a try.  Excelsior! BBS is likely entirely dead in the water, I cannot find any info about it.

DLG was supposedly released years back for free, including source code.  Anyone have any idea where I can obtain this?  Anyone tried it on a SAM/OS 4.1?  I am thinking it should run fairly well considering it is all modular and not much in the GUI department.

Last version of Cnet I ran was 3.x, so it's been awhile, but I have heard that people have had v5.x working well on OS 4.x with A1's.  I have been unable to contact anyone about  getting the new version (most recent info I have is that Storm's Edge owns it, and their store is down and I cannot get a response via email).

If anyone can give any info about DLG especially - and to a slighty lesser extent Cnet, would be appreciated.  I sadly cannot find any of my original disks for any of the mentioned packages, so I'm forced to track them down over the net.

I have  copies of CNET 3.05 and some other BBS disks, lot of BBS back up disks ( never will have a use for them) they came with the 2000 I picked up along with aprox. 3000 disks in a Libary card  style trays.

Hi Duce,

IIRC one of the classic was JRComm. I'm not sure where to get that anymore, my floppie was lost long time back. Also tried making my own before using AMOSPro, my source was lost when the HDD of my first A1200 died back in '02.

I used to run a BBS using MaxsBBS.  Completely different to the likes of AmiExpress, not as professional but way more fun I thought.

We had all kinds of tricks and plug ins to get things like File ID Diz to appear in listings, have 2 digit menu codes and such.  You can get it and a massive amount of doors for it on Aminet.  There was a guy called Nikki Murkett who released a revised version around about 1996 I think with a few extra features.

In the last ten years, the active telnet boards have mainly run with AmiExpress or FAME (with the exception of couple Daydreams). FAME is the most recent BBS-software for Amiga and it's been released as freeware nowadays.

Vast majority of the GUI cfg programs simply locked up/crashed.  Will jot down which ones/which errors when I get a chance, if you like.

Did you get your BBS online?  If so, please share the address so I can try it out.  I've never seen a Zeus BBS in action.

There was only one BBS program if you wanted a fast BBS. /X

I have a feeling that CNet Amiga Pro will be re-released again soon.  I have the latest version, and I am running it under WinUAE.  Its having some issues and K-Guide from Storm's Edge & FWII is helping me with it.  Once its smoothed out and I can get days of activity on the BBS without it freezing up, I am sure that crash free version will be released.

As of now, I am running v5.10f and I have went 21.2 hours from the time of this post without a lock-up.  I think he is onto something.

DLG just got put on the aminet open source know . and like spitfire said cnet 5 is being worked on l ran cnet 4 on ppc alright worked great when had my blizzard ppc card
shoud imagine on he sam board be nice and fast .
