GVP 1208 SCSI card for Amiga 1200: Simple question
« on: August 19, 2009, 04:40:57 AM »
Does anybody know if memory needs to be installed in pairs on this particular SCSI Card (GVP 1208).  I know they take the special GVP Simms (1MB or 4MB).  Do I have to install in both slots or can I just install a single 4MB chip in one of the slots?  Thanks.

http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/search.pl?product=1208&company=gvp
gives the impression that you only can't mix 1 and 4. So your choices are 1,2,4 or 8.

This memory card hasn't have autoconfiguration of memory. You need to set jumpers to configure the memory.

I shall explain what the card does when you put a 1 MB memory and jumpered with 4 MB.

The Amiga shows the 4 MB, but when you use more RAM, it will crash.

Do you have a SCSI controller on your GVP 1208?

My GVP 1208 has been expanded with 2x 4MB, SCSI controller and 28 MHz FPU.

Great card, but doesn't have a realtime clock unit and like other memory cards, it isn't PCMCIA friendly.

There's supposed to be a PMCIA compatible jumper - what does it do, don't know.

The PCMCIA compatible jumper sets the memory to 4 MB, when you have 8 MB of RAM. You could make a switch to attach this jumper and you could switch on and off.

My 1208 is a scsi controller and can also take two sticks of memory (8mb total).  My question is do I have to use both memory slots or can I use just one?  Could I just put just one stick of 4MB in this card and leave the other memory slot empty?  Thanks.

Yes, you can.

One jumper for set the size of the SIMM (1 or 4Mb). Memory then will be tested and the correct amount will show on Workbench.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.
