basilisk II and MacOS 8 install problem
« on: November 02, 2003, 03:49:47 AM »
i've installed succesfully MacOS8 on shapeshifter
but on basilisk II the system freeze during the
boot.I've done the same step with both emulators.
There is some kind of incompatibility of BasiliskII
with MacOS8?
Anyone can suggest me something?
Fusion 68k works well with Macos8?
Thanks a lot and bye

Hi yeffa,

Does it work OK with 7.x? When I tried Basilisk
it seemed nothing happened, and then after quite
some time it would suddenly "spring to life".
Never tried it with OS 8.

Hey Yeffa,

What's your computer specs? What does your Basilisk config file look like. How do you have it setup? There could be several reasons on why it's crapping out on you. Be a bit more specific.

Have you added emul tool at the beginning of your Startup-sequence? I know on my A3000, it wouldn't run 8.1 without it. My shapeshifter install never needed it, but I couldn't get Basilisk II to run without it.

Your config file looks fine, but you might want to add the FPU emulation. That might be locking it up.

in the basilisk archive there is not "emul tool".I've added to my startup-sequence the "prepare emul" ofshapeshifter. It's possible that the problem is that ....
Please, tell me wich tool i need and where i can find it!

can you explain to me something about Fpu emulation?i have to enable it?if yes, how? Thanks

I don't know if Basilisk requires a contiguous block of memory but I think it may. So do you have enough memory in one block compared to your config?
And the prepareemul tool is best to have switch A1200 on, so "prepareemul A1200" at least for my CSPPC worked better.

You do not need to use PrepareEmulA1200 on and Amiga 4000! You just use PrepareEmul, nothing else. Anyway, it sounds like it could be a memory or Ram problem, try playing around with the memory settings. I got that same problem a couple of times when it would crash during bootup, but this was using System Software 7.5.5. I have currently got Basilisk II working better than Shapeshifter! Dunno why. I hope this helps.

@Mikey_C

Oh yeah, i couldn't get that roddy Java Chat thing working! :-(

-edit-

Oh yeah, i just looked at the emulation galery section, i am bloody jealous! MS Office, Excel and Power Point! Thats what i need, i am dead jealous!

I have also got Shapeshifter up and running but is way slower than Basilisk II! I did download CardTrickEVD off aminet for CGFX and it sped it up a little but not enough. Any Ideas?

I have tried this, the best option is to revert to MacOS 7.x

MacOS was never written for the 68060 which has extra features over the 040 which you HAVE to TURN OFF!
Such as a the Superscalar mode and the FPU Exceptions as well using the CPU060 command (supplied with latest 060 libraries).
Then MacOS should boot fine.
