BVision and BPPC!
« on: November 01, 2003, 12:14:26 PM »
Yo y'all

I have a small problem. It seems that my BPPC board has a totaly smashed PPC unit.
Some legs of the cpu has even broken off the print..

It's to be said that i'm not gonna get the cpu repaired way too expensive.

Here is the real ?!!?
Do i need to have a fully functioning PPC Cpu to
use a BVision expansion?!
The reason why is that i have a bvision lying around but i can't get it to work, even with heavy cooling.

br.
Brian

_Small_ problem? Sounds rather serious to me. How'd you manage to destroy the PPC? During shipment?

Yo!

I bought them both as secondhand, they was cheap i think. The price for them both was 142,- EUR
(603e 160mhz/040 25mhz) but they didn't work properly i'd got the 040 un'n running but the PPC cpu was crashing the system all the time.

So i tok the cooler of the chip and discovered that the legs was touching each ohter. In the effort to move them apart, one of the pins or more went of the print :-(
So now only the 040 works but would like to use my BVision, but only if posible.
Won't post anymore money into my acc board.

I Love AGA :-)

I dont seer why the BVision part should stop functioning,  but only way to know for sure is to try it .

Be sure youve removed any ppc components from the OS to ensure nothing tried to use the now missing ppc cpu.

Although the Blizzardvision should work, and will be a massive improvement over AGA, i would recommend getting your Blizzard PPC repaired. As the PPC will do the Blizzardvision more justice.

Yo just to end this post :-)

Got everything working, even with the leg's on the cpu bending :-/

However i just lowered the bus freq. to 50 mhz and then it works also my bvision :-)
I suspects that the heat from the cpu was expanding the legs on the cpu when clocked to 66 mhz.
However i have installed 5 coolers incl the ones on the PPC and BPCC. Also have i add power on the ppc board itself.

IT'S GREEEAT Amiduke here i come!

p.s:Internet explore looks soo dull!

I recognise that 'fix'. I suffered from a lot of instability so I sent it back to P5. According to them they changed it to rev 1.2 (or 1.1 can't remember), which just involved setting the boardclock to 50MHz. So it seems to be an 'official' fix :-).
