Micronik Z-2i vs. OS3.9
« on: August 10, 2009, 09:57:24 PM »
Hi, during vacation I have decided to solve some old problems!
Right now I am looking to one of my A1200s!
When I first start the Amiga, OS3.9 does not see my Picasso II (everthing is ok with OS3.1). After a reset everything is ok as soon as I turn the Amiga off and on again!
I was wondering about putting a "RESET" command in the startup-sequence (that reboots only the first time obviously) but it would be... strange.
Any idea?

Oh, I had this problem years ago with that busboard. Can't remember what I did to solve it. Got all the BoingBags and CGX 4 updates installed?

mmm... you are very near to become one of my best Amiga friends! :)
I installed both BB1 and BB2 but... I normally use Picasso96 drivers!!! Before installing and unistalling software... do you think this could be the matter? I normally know that Picasso are better (and faster) than CGX...

OS 3.9 already does a reboot the first time it is started. Perhaps a simple wait which causes it not to reboot too quickly will solve your problem.

Just insert

wait 1

before setpatch.

Bye,
Thomas

I do not know very well the Amiga...
In my startup-sequence or in the user-startup I have only these lines with "setpatch":
  If $SCSIUpdate EQ 1
    SetPatch QUIET
  Else
    SetPatch SKIPROMUPDATES "scsi.devide" QUIET
  EndIf
I put the "wait 1" (or bigger waitstate) before the "If" but nothing changes...
It's really strange... If I press both mouse buttons all the cards are seen but, when OS3.9 boots, the Picasso II is no more seen by the system! :(

Oh! Oh! Huston I have a problem! :(
I tried the software reboot solution with a small program that simulates the "A+A+CTRL" key combination (it calls the Exec Library reboot command) and it does not work! I HAVE to press the keys!!! It's a nonsense...
Now I am very worried... I cannot understand which is the problem with OS3.9 and the rest of the HW! :(

In the meantime I also tried the CGX and the result is the same... so I got back to Picasso...

HELP!!!

The difference is that Ctrl-A-A does a real hardware reset, just like if you pressed the reset button on the tower case. The program only does a software reset. It is not able to reset the entire hardware.

It seems like your hardware is not able to deal with software resets, so you should avoid them. Try to rename the file "AmigaOS ROM Update" in the Devs directory. Then OS 3.9 will no longer soft-reset on the first boot.

GREAT!!! GREAT!!! GREAT!!! You are right... the problem of my HW is the SW reset!
I have done what you suggested me and now the computer does work... obviously with the original kick3.1 in memory! I am not so involved in this matter... now I have OS3.9-BB2, is the Amiga stable without this upgrade?
And... this solved another issue... I have also a Micronik Z-3i and I had the same problem with the onboard SCSI controller!!! :) Now it is solved! :)
THANX A LOT!!!

Yes, it is. Only some modules are not active. For example >4GB support for the internal IDE port is not present.
