Nonfunctioning Floppy Drives
« on: August 10, 2009, 07:32:29 PM »
I have a couple of Amiga floppy drives sitting around that don't work.  They were given to me probably 10 years ago by another person who was in my user group.  He said that both of them had stopped working when he plugged the internal DF0/DF1 cable into them backwards.  Is this a common problem?  Can these be easily fixed or should I just toss them?  There is no need to keep them around taking up space if they are not repairable or would cost more to have repaired then they are worth.   Thanks,

Dan

That is odd, normally plugging in a floppy cable does not hurt drives. Have you tried them yourself?
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Hi,
No thats not true.  Plugging in the cable the wrong way won't damage the drive.  What model are they?  We would be interested in refurbishing them if you don't want them.  We also can repair some drives if you want them back.

had he somehow managed to plug in power backwards, it would 'hurt' them.
I wouldn't throw them away, try to use them and tell us results..
are they DD?
Better sorry than worry.
