Questions and a gripe about EBay
« on: October 31, 2003, 04:14:35 AM »
I am a casual EBay seller and buyer.
Its only a hobby....
I use Turbo Lister, when I first started, the updates
were small and I could choose to download now
or later. The last 2 or 3 times I was going to list
something I had to D/L the update. No option to
D/L  later.  Today it was an 8 meg update again
and with a 33k modem and the slow feed from
EBay it was D/Ling for over an hour and not even
1/4 done. I said to hell with it and looked for an
EMail address to submit my concerns (bitch).
I couldn't find an EMail address.
Is anyone else having problems like this and
what are you doing about it??

No, I have CABLE.  Why are you still using a dial up modem?  Get cable, or at least dsl.     :smack:

Maybe he doesn't have cable or DSL in his area or he feels it's to exspensive for the amount he'll use it.

Where I live, I've got cable (Beep! Beep!) and there is DSL but only from a small local telco in their own small area. So, DSL is not a real option here. Also, I can get dialup for between $5-$10 a month compared to $50 for Cable.

IE, there's lots of reasons.

P.S. You're not being helpful.

I think your experienceing what alot of new XP user did shortly after it came out. Noting like having Dialup and that new XP computer that wants you to download 30 MB of updates.

You could try here:
Turbo Lister Forum

Dial-up is really the only thing available to me
and the phone lines are not good enough for
a 56k modem, 33k is the best I can run, I've tried.
I'm out in the Boonies.

What I can't understand why I need 8 megs of
updates, the last couple of times I D/Led the
updates I didn't see any difference in Turbo Lister.
I see these updates as pointless, what could they
possibily be sending??

I can only have dialup where I live - out in the sticks. I can't get ADSL either, as my local exchange doesn't support it :-(

Are the updates required?  If not, and you're satisfied with the product, why upgrade?  ie. If it aint broke, don't fix it.  (or, the reason we still use Amigas)
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

If you're only a casual e-Bayer, do you need to use Turbolister?  Using e-Bay without really doesn't take too much time and you don't miss out on all that much.
I, too, am in a crap area where 36kbps is the norm.  Some days I get up to 37,3kbps - magic!  I know how annoying it can be when you find a large file that you want to download - too often you end up not bothering.
A neighbour is a computer tech and is thinking of getting satellite broadband which he would let people within a mile use (rural area so not many).  Maybe you could gather a few people together and try something like this if phone line is so dodgy.

Goodluck.
