Spectrum 28/24 problem in my 2000
« on: July 27, 2009, 07:34:37 PM »
I recently got in a second hand 28/24 board and it doesnt look like my 2500 is liking it.  Early boot menu says the card is defective, but when I try it in my 3000 it works fine and the defective message isnt there.

Ideas?  I already tried the Zorro II force jumpers.

Hm. How much 16 bit RAM does the 2500 have?  I had a 2000 and a Spectrum 28/24 worked fine in it, but all my RAM was on the accelerator.  Dunno if that makes a difference.

I have 4 on the 2630 card and another 4 on a Supra card.

edit:

Its the damn Supra Card causing problems...  I took it out and "defective" disappeared.  Think I'm out of luck trying to use both at the same time?

I'd try getting down to 6mb or less total to see if that makes a difference.

Might just be too much memory in use on the Zorro II bus.  See if you can set the Supra card to 2MB.

Remember total max is 8 MB on ZorroII - including the RTG memory!

Thanks guys, huge DUH moment for me there.  I completely forgot about the RTG using adding to that 8megs too.

Problem solved!

Don't you hate it when you have "too much" ram?  lol

hahaha no joke.

My last question on this.  The pass through cable is a DB15 to the Spectrum's db9.  I assume I need to rig my own Amiga DB23 video cable to the DB9 on the spectrum, right?  When I do this, does the Spectrum convert that signal to where my non-multisync VGA monitor can view the image?

No, the Spectrum doesn't scandouble.  It'll pass through the Amiga signal as-is.

One of those DB9 to DB15 cables could work for you with a standard Amiga 23 to 15 adapter if you have the stuff lying around, otherwise you would have to figure one out.  Of course, if you don't have a compatible monitor, it's probably not worth the trouble.

Thanks

That's what I thought, just wanted to make sure before I bother with rigging a cable or not.
