BLIZZARD 603e Dual Processor Board - Amiga on uk ebay
« on: October 29, 2003, 03:51:04 PM »
This auction is for a Phase 5, Blizzard 603e expansion board for the Amiga 1200 systems. This will upgrade your Amiga processor to a 68040 - 25Mhz and also add a PowerPC processor runnong at 160Mhz. It comes with 24MB of ram on board and is still a rather expensive item if you can get hold of a new one. Increases performance fantastically and makes games faster than ever.

The link is here blizzard ppc card 160mhz
I once had an amigaone xe but sold it .

Yea, it starts cheap, but wait a couple of days (4 days to end) and see the final price.
If it ramains at 51£ or even 100£ I'll go for it. :-P

Went for £108 in the end...I thought that was quite a reasonable price, and not the 'ebay madness' price I was expecting.....perhaps because it only has an 040?
I like Amigas

I thought single CPU Amiga PPC boards were subject to overheating problems, let alone dual CPU...!

I don't have a PPC accelerator, but from what I've heard they have a reputation for heat issues.  If I were you, I'd start a new thread more specific to your question, and more experienced (regarding that hardware) people should be able to help you out.

The 040 chip will get very hot (this is normal), along with the extra heat of the second cpu they tend to run a bit warm.

As long as you have a towered 1200 you should be fine.

I've suffered with overheating on many occasions with my BPPC, but never because of the 040... It can be left as it is, no heatsink or fan and it will function perfectly... although I have fitted a HS+Fan to mine. Where my problems have been are with the PPC itself. I have a 160mhz 603e. The problems I had was mainly due to the thermal compound drying up, so replaceing that and it fixes it, and ive had the fan die on me too, but thats since been replaced. If the cards looked after and its fairly well ventillated you shouldnt experience any overheating at all...
