A2000-HC+8 Series II: What type of SIMMS does it take?
« on: July 12, 2009, 08:49:44 AM »
Does anybody know the stats on the type of memory that goes in the A2000-HC+8 Series II?  I know they are 30 pin Simms, but does the memory have to be parity or non parity?  What speed memory...60ns, 70ns, 80ns???  If anybody knows, I would appreciate it.

Non parity, as fast as you can find (which is probably not very fast at all).

No Amiga RAM expansion uses parity, so it'll take either. Most 30 pin SIMMs are 80 ns and taking into account it's only Zorro II memory, that's most probably fast enough.
In case you're in need of SIMMs, I've got plenty of 1 MBs somewhere.

I'll check what's there tomorrow - wouldn't think about selling them though, they're going free for postage. ;) Where are you at?

Erm - I'm very sorry, but the 30 pins seem to have disappeared... I was pretty sure that we hadn't dumped them but they're not there any more. :(

Hey Zac,

bit confused - but wasn't this card (and many others) from GVP limited to GVP "special" memory ? And only the Tekmagic 060 supporting both GVP and normal sims ?

I could be wrong of course ?

I checked BBoAH and it says 30 pins. Actually, there's not much sense in putting 32 bit SIMMs on a 16 bit Zorro II card - I guess only accelerators use GVP SIMMs.

100% certain this uses regular 30-pin SIMMS.

You should be able to find two 4Mbyte SIMMS on ebay for under €8

Only 32-bit accelerators used 64-pin GVP SIMMS.

It will also take 4MB SIMMs, with a maximum of 2 modules.

Technically there isn't really a 4000 version. It's just a relabeled HC8+ Rev II with software enhancements to get around the DMA problems these cards (and A2091's) have in the A4000. Hardwarewise the cards are identical.

2 4MB Simms will work guaranteed on the Rev II models (A2000-HC8+ Rev II, A4008, A4000-HC8+ Rev II) and the even have the jumper settings (4MBx1) silkscreened next to SIMM sockets and jumpers.

It's very likely that the Rev4 and Rev5 board (with the larger SCSI chip) will also work, but this has not been confirmed.

The older Impact 8+ likely will not work, this is the card with 8 SIMM sockets but is a fully populated board; ie no room for a hard drive.
