Interestung A600's
« on: July 10, 2009, 05:13:26 PM »
If you have been following my blog lately, you know I am or have been getting in a few A600's. I have been trying to hunt down information on the differences between motherboard revisions (and which is the most desirable) but other than listing the numbers, I have found nothing worth while.
I also have been trying to hunt down information on what the different ROM revisions are.
According to most sources (from the WIKI to the BBOAH) the first ROM Revision was Kickstart 2.05 revision 37.299, But one of the machine I got in is (was) V2.05 37.229 (it is a Commodore Chip not am "MX")

I am trying to find out if this chip was "from Factory", because if not, why would they "downgrade" revision numbers.

Anyways, it is a interesting mystery.
Anybody know of a page that actually explains what the difference is between Motherbord revisions are? Most sites are pretty useless except for pictures.

My A600 came with that .229 ROM as well, but I was never sure if it was a misprint for .299 or if it was actually something older. It's not installed right now (replaced with 3.1), but if yours is, you could check the boot screen or SKick to see if the internal code says .229 as well.

Thanks, But like you, I did replace it with 3.1. I wonder if ALL the sites are wrong then about the first Revision number? Makes sense if they all got their info from the same source.

Mine is almost exactly the same EXCEPT the bottom number is 2412351 not sure if that is the S/N or what?

Im pretty sure one of my A600's is a .299. What does that mean? Is that the revision without IDE drivers? If you want I can check its a .299 if it helps you :)

That is what I am trying (amungst other things) to find out. According to the WIKI .299 has no IDE or PCMCIA drivers in it.

The rev 2D board at The Amiga Hardware Database shows a .299 chip with the same part number as my .229, suggesting a misprint.

The labels and board revisions might have something to do with territory of origin. My A600 was from the UK and with an intact warranty seal. I think it was a 1.5 board, but it could be 1.3.
