« on: October 29, 2003, 09:19:31 AM »
Dudes,, the time has come :-) Im gonna put my miggy 1200 in a case (home made from a PC case) Basically, its going in a desktop case (from a Compaq deskpro),

Is there some way of powering the amiga from the PSU? Im sure i read it somewhere here... anyone got the wiring schematics or any advice before i proberbly break my amiga?

Cheers

Linchpin your one crazy dude....

Easiest way to power the 1200 is:

From the PC power supply connect a the small Floppy power connecter to the floppy power supply header on the A1200. Then find -12V on the PC PSU (usually blue wire) and stick this into the Amiga 1200 Power connector centre hole.

If you are gonna hang a lot of stuff of the mobo, Clock port gadgets, 2.5" Hard disc Accelerator, then chop the lead of the A1200 power supply about 6" from the block. strip back the wires on the A1200 power supply, measure the voltages from the wires:
I think its...... but check first as its been a while....

Black - GND
Red +5V
Brown +12V
White -12V
Then Shield Ground.

Match these up with the PC voltages and join the lead up you chopped off.

To power up an ATX PSU with out it being attached to a PC either join the green wire to the black wire next to it and use the switch on the back of the PSU or put a switch between the wires

I think its one of the old type PC cases so the ATX function on the PSU wont be a problem - i hope. I know its an ugly case but im gonna spray it and hopefully get it looking kinda nice :-) Heh, good job i have an amiga 500+ to test the PSU wiring before i wire up my a1200 hahah :-)

Cheers carl

Definatley. Im going to get some spray and laquer tonight, the case and front is going to be silver, then if i can get the colours and make a stencil im going to put a big tick on the top :-)

I have no room (or spare case) for a tower, damm even a desktop will be nicer than the a1200 vanilla case.

Cheers!

A1200 in a desktop case sounds pretty cool....

EDIT: Just seen pic above... (it didn't show before) heh. Mine's prettier than yours!

UPDATE ON BUILD :-)

Ok! Now we are getting somewhere! The motherboard is all mounted onto the base with the help of some runners to elavate it, the CD drive, HDD, 2 floppys are installed, front of case is now sprayed, along with 75% of the main case shell itself, and the whole thing is booting off the old PC PSU (Thanks to Jurrassic Camper for assistance with the PSU problem). Ordered a keyboard adaptor from www.powerc.com hopefully get that in the next day or so, then the top can go on. Need to get a scandoubler/ ff next (have one lined up)... hopefully will be taking my frankenstein to the bath amiga show if its finished in time, maybe even have an accelerater / ram expansion in there too :-) So far, have shot 20 photos of the build process, will be uploading them all (or at least the good ones) up to the website when the project is done.

Nooo!! A600's kick ass =)

An A500 you can get for almost nothing and they can be found in piles, better to destroy some of them than some a600's!
Slightly bored and severly confused..
