Got Netsurf 68k working
« on: July 06, 2009, 09:00:09 AM »
Just wanted to thank the authors of Netsurf 2.1 for 68k Amigas.  I am testing it out on Winuae, but am going to install it on my miggy next.  It's great to finally have a CSS browser for 68k Amigas.  It has a couple of bugs... sometimes it's hard to type in text (for example it took several attempts to get the browser to type in my name and password and sometimes typing in text for a new message thread or reply can be tricky, i.e. the text doesn't always appear or there can be a delay in seeing the characters appear on the screen)  However, the rendering is very good (although I have only been using it for 15 minutes :) )

Keep up the great work guys!

-Miked

I was wondering, what workbench version are you using? and what is the processor type? 68030 or better?

For Winuae I use OS 3.1.  I have a Derringer 030 installed in my Amiga with 32megs of Ram.  I am wondering if this will be enough to run Netsurf smoothly, but I will give it a try.  Netsurf runs very fast in Winuae... i really am enjoying it.

Edit/

Just fixing some typos

From where did you download it? Or you had to compile it yourself? I am asking because I found more then one link to download from:

this one:
http://aminet.net/package/comm/www/netsurf.lha

and this one:
http://www.netsurf-browser.org/downloads/amiga/

Note: both seem to be identical. I managed to get the one above installed. However have problems to make it run. That is why I asked if you built it yourself.

@Seiya
Did you turn on bsdlibrary-emulation in WinIUA? Did you install the usergroup.library to AmiTCP:Libs/ as suggested?

I downloaded Netsurf from aminet.  Make sure you have AmiTCP installed and it should run without any problems.  (And I, too, have bsdsocket.library emulation enabled in Winuae)

If you have bsdsocket-emulation enabled, you do *not* need to have the full AmiTCP installation running. bsdsocket-emulation does almost everything for you. The only thing you need IIRC is the usergroup.library in AmiTCP:lib  (And the assign AmiTCP: of course)

@miked: netsurf should even work with 16mb ram.
@sim85: these are os4 netsurf port links. netsurf 68k is here:

The version I downloaded from Aminet, works very well on my real maiga (Cyberstorm MKII, 060 128MB, Cybervision 3D/Scandoubler, Z3 with 48MB, Deneb2.0, X-Surf, KS3.1/OS3.9 BB1 & 2, MIAMI). Rendering can be slow, but it depends on website - Amiga.org is reasonable Google News is slow.
A3000T, Cybervision64, CSMKII 060; A3000D, PicassoII, Z3 Fastlane; A2000D, 040, PicassoII; A4000D, A1200, Blizzard 030 MKIV  (not working - next project)

@ selco

My reply was a bit vague.  I have the usergroup.library in the correct location in winuae.  On my Amiga 500 I have installed AmiTCP.

@ tumbleweed

I hope rendering isn't too slow with an 030.

I found this:
http://www.acc.umu.se/~patrikax/amiga/guides/AmiTCP_Install/

Looks like a good step by step guide to install AmiTCP. Just in case anyone (like me) has some trouble in understanding how to install this :)

this is know, and if you know what problem is, you can avoid.for example make sure when you want type text in, that the page is in top left postion.(press cursor up and cursor left until no move can see)

But as told netsurf is much rearrange due to google code of summer project.the sdl stuff come now in a lib called libnsfb.so best is wait wait some weeks until rearrange is finish.

when a user have AOS 3.5 or 3.9 he can install genesis.
only what need is a
assign amitcp: your_genesis dir

You need not go online with genesis, you can use miami as before, there are only some files in amitcp: dir need

--

when scroll full down on a site that have for example 500 lines and then
press the back button to show a page that have only 40 lines. Then is
nothing show.seem cursor pos is not set back to show page at line 0.only
when press some time cursor up, then content is show

--

there is no cursor show in textinput fields

--

when add a internet address and press return, the new page is load, when
then press cursor to scroll the page, wired chars are then show in page
string gadget.i think after press return, the input gadget should leave.
only help is after type in link click outside string gadget

--

the Text input in a Page show no text during type when the page is scroll
before.
it work only when the page is in top left position.

I have an old copy of Miami that I still use.  Does Netsurf specifically need AmiTCP?
