Amiga 1200D High Definition
« on: July 05, 2009, 04:23:11 AM »
Hello anyone  thought to try make an Amiga 1200 with HDMI slots with High Definition graphics's inside and updated or Modded 1200D wedge case.

would it be possible to design a card similar to the Indivision AGA 1200 with an external HDMI connector.

I would like to see a new modern style 1200D wedge case design.
I would like to make my own one day.

I think others dreamt of this before, only that a dose of reality kicks in.  Cost prohibitive unless you make it in quantities that Commodore made it in.  Anyway its good to dream. :-)

I think something like this might work to Gefen EXT-VGA-2-DVISP VGA to DVI Scaler PLUS

.

Another "dreamer" thread thats going nowhere then eh?
AGA struggles with 640x256 @ 256 colours (8bit colour resolution), "normal" HD is 1377 x 768 (there are slight variations too) in 32 bit colour, "full" HD is 1920 x 1080, the AGA chipset would need to be totally replaced, what you would end up with is only an Amiga in name. Others have already tried this - see Amiga One from Eyetech.

The problem with moving the Amiga platform forward without a company with any money behind it and sound management, is that we are only left with "dreamers" and not anyone who has the money or forsight to make a logical sustainable strategy for this once great platform. Its such a shame :( we have individuals like Jens and Piru et al who are so knowledgable and talented, and a lot of good intentioned people like the original poster but we get nowhere in this world with only those things :/

Until Amiga rises from the ashes, buy a Sam440 :) Ive read reviews of it from people outside the community who say its great with OS4 (just a bit expensive) but it has the hardware to get you much closer to an Amiga with HD today :)
==================
Amiga 4000/040 25Mhz - 18MB Ram-HDD-CDRW- Picasso 2 2MB GFX OS3.9
Amiga 2000/030 25Mhz - 10MB Ram - GVP HC+8 with HDD and CDROM OS3.1 and a DKB MEGAChip
Amiga 1200/030 50Mhz - 18MB Ram - CF>IDE OS3.1 Squirrel SCSI
A500+ 000/7Mhz - 4MB Ram GVP HD+ SCSI w/40MB HDD (WOW!!)
Plus a "few" more ;) hehe

On "new modern style 1200D wedge case design"...

http://www.cybernet.com.tw/en/products/zero-footprint-pc.cfm

Includes a DVI interface, which can be converted to HDMI. The GPU is not targeted as "gaming" processor i.e. Intel GMA 3100.

Note that laptops is also considered as "all-in-one" type PC (includes keyboard).
For example ASUS G50 (gaming laptop)

Includes HDMI.

One can install Amiga Forever 2009 on these PCs.

My dream would be a brand new A1200 / A500 type desktop all in one with a classic 68900 or something with 2Ghz Dual core . It will be able to take standard DDR2/3 pc ram and would support 8Mb Chip and up to 1Gb fast ram .

Have HDMI and component out .
Have built in Wifi
Have built in LAN
Built in USB 2.0
Have SD/MMC card slots
Built in DVD drive
64 Bit sound (but still compatible with Paula)
New Kickstart (4.0??)

Etc.. etc...

It must also retain the floppy drive :-) and be fully compatible with the classic Amigas , yet also be compatible with OS4 and housed in a typical yet modern Amiga all in one case .
A1200HD- Blizzard 1230IV / 64Mb / Kick 3.1 / OS 3.9 / 20GB HD
A4000 040 @33Mhz -Kick 3.1 / 16MB
A2000 Rev4.4 - \'030 @25Mhz / 8MB / Kick 3.1 / ClassicWB
CD32 -     Stock (W/ 2 CD32 Controllers]
A500 Plus - 68000 / 2MB Chip / 2Mb Fast / 2.04/1.3 / A590 / A570
A600HD - 2MB Chip / 8MB Fast / 2GB CF HD / Kick 3.1

I would bet that 99% of televisions which have HDMI also have a VGA connector which are compatible with Indivision and BVision.

So what's the problem?

Inaccurate and untrue.

If we are talking about machines that exist only in your dreams, why would you limit it to 8MB of Chip RAM? Why not have, say, 2GiB "Chip" and 8GiB "Fast" (all on your new dual core 64-bit 68000 descendant) ?

How about a teletronic interface™ which would let you interact with games, type and control the pointer using just your mind?

Why dont you just run Amiga forever on that Zero footprint PC that Hammer linked to and be done with it! :). Maybe slap a Amiga sticker on it?

I wonder how difficult it would be to put one of those micro atx boards inside an A500 case?

It doesn't have PowerPC(TM) and eco-system for AOS4.x.

dont rule out the sam fitting in there,it's just a matter of connecting all the sam's outer connections to the outer connection to that case.

some of the device's keyboard,cf slots ect can be done internal.

or if your brave a cd32 modifyed to connect to a blizzard ppc may also fit in the above case.

A1200 motherboard may also fit in-there too.

Err No......Analogue to Analogue <> Missing or NC Pins to Digital HDMI

As a later poster mentioned you need a Analogue VGA to HDMI converter like the Geffin...sorry lots of cash....OR....invest in an A to D upscaling AV receiver like a Yam 2700/3800 or better ;)
was Enterprise Vault (Its an Exchange Fail!), now its EMC Avamar, Dedupe for mostly everything including brain cells.
