Amiga 500 still doesn't start up
« on: October 28, 2003, 10:00:21 AM »
Hi folks.
So far, I tested all your good and less good advices ( e.g. dropping the computer ) . and nothing made my amiga work again....

Hum.
So what now?
As I work now quite a long time with the fine apple stuff, I know they invented some key combinations which reset the parameter ram as exemple. Are there some key combinations on the amiga as well, which could make my amiga work again?

Are  you sure your power supply is OK (Test it with a multimetre). I did not read the other thread.

Strip the Amiga down.
Disconnect the floppy, all external devices, modulator. Until you have just the motherboard left. Make sure the ROM and 68000 are seated ok.
From the phono mono video socket on the back connect this to the Video in (scart / phono) on a TV
Most modern TV's have these. Put the TV on the External video source channel you have the amiga input to.
Switch on the PSU. After what seems an age (minute or two) the Amiga will realise that no floppy disc drive is attached an will drop to the kick start screen.

If after 2 mins this doesn't happen I'd pretty much say your mobo or psu has a fault.

From reading all the information you have provided it sounds like your 500 has serious issues.

If you turn it on and it does nothing, no color flashes etc and you have reseated all your chips then there are problems. You can start off trying to swap chips if you have them on hand, if you do this start with the 68000 IMO and then Agnes(just my quick guess). But personally I think you'd be better off buying a replacement. If mine are too expensive for your taste, used but working units can be picked up cheap on eBay.  Since you have everything else just look for an auction for a A500 console only(no monitor or even power suplly). You can probably pick one up for $20 or so + shipping.

HERE is one at $9.99 (NOT MY AUCTION!) with 1 day left. Assuming you are in the USA of course.
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!
