Rep Power
« on: June 26, 2009, 09:40:58 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I noticed the site has changed (I'm slow, but not that slow) but have only just seen the Rep Power thing. Mine is 5. Is that good? Is it based on the number of posts you make like the status under your username? Mine says Technoid at the moment. Can it go down? Is there an FAQ on the site that I should have read before posting that explains all?

Thanks,
Robin.

5's good!

If people like your posts then they can approve it, which increases your Rep power... :)

The reputation feature is new to the site (as part of moving to VB). Basically you have a reputation score. This is added to whenever somebody decides that they like a post of yours and give you reputation for it. Likewise, people can take exception to your post and detract from it. The amount they can add or detract is dependent on their reputation power. Reputation power is dependent on reputation. The higher your reputation, the greater your reputation power.

Everybody starts off with a degree of reputation. If it started at zero, the system would never work.

Thanks guys. So it's all about earning respect, like the Mafia! I like! ;)

I'm about to post something dumb asking why Scalos won't properly uninstall so I wonder if that'll do me any harm: I don't ask with respect, I don't offer friendship. I don't even think to say Godfather. (I think that's the quote.)

Only the mods can leave a horse's head in your User CP, so stay on the right side of them

Hmmm! It does seem to be climbing... I'm still about 11000 positives away from you though :)

Am I reading two dons comparing their mob powers?

Last question on this: So how did I get 5 points? All I do is ask for help when I've screwed something up and/or need help. Does it mean people have looked at all my posts from the old site and taken pity on me?

If everybody started with a rep power of ten, then I would like to know who I offended and what they were offended by.

I don't think that's quite how it works, as far as I can tell the initial rep power depends on post count and how long you've been on the site.

I get the impression that's more or less how it works. After that, it's all down to what reputation you receive for making noteworthy posts.

Everyone starts with 10 rep points, not 10 Rep power... 10 rep power is gonna take quite a bit to earn :)

You don't become a made man overnight.

I'm really going to stop the mob references now!
